I love the eclecticism in your selection smile.gif A broad mind develops nicely in any field, not only music! I am not personally fond of bands such as Arctic Monkeys, but I took the time to listen and understand what they have to offer to the listener and I found things that I like.

When I went in the mountains with the band, last week, we listened to the old DT albums.. man that was music! Again, personal opinion, but they are sorting out albums nowadays simply because they have to do it, unfortunately.

I thought that might be you would like this guy's music:

A few other cool albums of this musically awesome year:

The Strokes - Comedown Machine (By far their best album, far more groove and punch and not as linear IMHO)
Phoenix - Bankrupt! (guilty pleasure maybe, I saw them live and they're a solid band for a pop-rock act!)
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
Junip - Junip (very acoustic, soothing band)
Foals - Holy Fire
Arctic Monkeys - AM (though a lot of people tend to hate on this band, this album is pretty cool, and pop-rock)
Oh and hum hum
Dream Theater - Dream Theater (but I think most of you guys already heard it tongue.gif )

And don't forget
Paul McCartney - New (not bad at all)
and David Bowie - The Next Day (Nothing new really, though some cool songs)

BTW this is all personal taste, so don't start bashing the bands guys wink.gif

I havent heard much of their recent stuff but I was really impressed when I heard them back when they first kinda broke through.
They have some great lyrics. Ive always been impressed by how ingenious their song writing can be.

This is a very intersting list. I loved NIN album, it's an amazing journey to listen it. I also enjoyed Artic Monkeys album. I still have to listen to the other ones, specially the ones by Paul and David.

Tell me about it, man my favourite albums are Images & Words, Metropolis Pt2 and Octavarium (because you got to dig the Rudess wink.gif )
Very cool song by Ben Howard, thanks Cosmin.
A friend had shown me his Call Me Maybe cover, this dude really does have some original musical ideas!

They definitely have some really cool arrangements, Plus since their 3rd album they have been close friends with Josh Homme, you can feel the QOTSA influence on some sliding guitar licks, and Homme even does backup vocals on two songs off the AM album. Just like the lead singer, Alex Turner, did for ...Like Clockwork album !

It's awesome how much Homme can influence his friends...

City and Color are amazing!! I will admit I was not a fan at first but they grew on me LOL!!

The Girl is a great song but I think my fave off 'Bring Me Your Love" would be this...

The second verse is sung by one of my all time favourite singers Gordon Downie from The Tragically Hip. Not sure if you are familiar with them but they are simply brilliant (Well to most Canadians anyways tongue.gif ) Here is one of many favourite songs by them although it was hard to chose which one to post as so many great songs... so I picked 2 smile.gif Picked a live one cause they are amazing in concert!!

Can't see the City and Color song as it's saying it's not available in my country... sad.gif The other tunes, hmmm, I think that as you said, they have to grow on me, as they didn't strike me immediately smile.gif Will listen some more and see what happens..

I'd have to say I quite liked Carcass with Surgical Steel, Amon Amarth with Deceiver of the Gods, and Ayreon with the Theory of Everything.

I've only found Ayreon recently, like 2 weeks ago, but I love most of what I've heard. It's a shame I'm always out of iTunes and grandma gets mad when I buy cds. dry.gif That video was awesome, too, thanks for sharing it.

It's been a long time since I listened to Ayreon. I remember that I had the album that included this song with the talented Bruce Dickinson, who is always great to hear. smile.gif

The guy seems pretty well connected in the industry, as he has recorded with a big number of famous artists - had no clue he had Bruce as well, thanks for the share Gabe! biggrin.gif

Now, metalheadlady - do you know Devin Townsend?

You should definitely check out his works - this guy is like a musical mad wizard...

Well, it's more of a mental list, but I guess I can think of some. I wouldn't mind some recommendations of Ayreon. Turisas, Mercyful Fate, Menhir, Waylander, Dream Evil, Tyr, Eluvietie, Falkenbach, Iced Earth, Wintersun, Primal Fear, Stratovarious, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Rammstien, Therion, Grave Digger, and Angra are all bands that I have at least one song by on my iPod, but I could use more and I'm not sure which ones. Sabaton, Svartsot, Moonsorrow, Skyclad, Elvenking, Avantasia, Firewind, Manowar, and Satavage are all bands that I've heard of in one way or another, but was likely too busy listening to something else to look them up. There's more, but I can't think of them off of the top of my head. Also please excuse any band name typos, autocorrect is really upset right now lol
