For those folks who dig a bit of Viking Metal, here is the new AMON AMARTH vid. Some cool battle scenes in this one. Looks like it cost some money! Great to see them doing well after so long slogging it out and keeping their day jobs!! Up until this most recent album/tour, some members were still delivering pizzas/painting houses when not recording/touring. Not to say there's anything wrong with earning an honest living, just glad to see that bands can still make a living at some point, if they are willing to tour for a decade or two smile.gif

Great vid man!! I am not a fan of this style, but I am particularly fond of history and mythology and out of what I know, their vocalist will be the main character in a viking movie biggrin.gif

10 Minutes of music - well that makes up a mini episode of a series, doesn't it? I think it's really difficult to come up with 10 SOLID minutes of music... I mean not cramming it up with solos or something, but telling a 10 minute long story. After some time and understanding, I came to respect people writing movie soundtracks A BIG LOT!

Totally agree. It reminds me of Insomnium. I think they have been working normal type jobs while making really brilliant albums. I guess its just the genre of music, I dunno, but it's quite mad that such good music doesn't always allow the musicians to do it full time.
Theres a brilliant documentary on insomnium, really shows the reality of their band.

I worked on a soundtrack for a feature length movie a bit back and was thankful to only be responsible for the "hero theme". A staggering amount of music went in to the film. Just my bit ook me two months. There was another team of guys doing the orchestration based on my hero them for other bits of the movie. My stuff was mostly guitar and some strings stuff. I gotta say though it was GREAT FUN. Love to do more smile.gif Its' listed on my IMDB listing (TRANSMIGRATION)

Ha! Amazing smile.gif Can you describe the process a bit? Does it go like usual music writing? I mean, in my imagination - it's more like reading the script, watching the footage and trying to illustrate what you see... pretty darn complex work... how did it work for you?

Yup smile.gif It's great fun. I usually get the scenes that need the "theme" and just improvise until I get something I like then submit the tracks and the mixer guy puts them in the movie along with any orchestration based on the theme. For this particular movie score, we all worked remotely and used GARAGE BAND believe it or not!! For everything but the final mix an all of the guitar was done in software. All presets, no amps were used at all so that the final mixer guy could have complete control over the sound.

I miss working on movies now that I think about it wink.gif gonna find a new project for 2014!

Todd

Ohh, so you just recorded the guitars, not built the whole thing from scratch - I mean, I was thinking that you had the footage arranged as it would look in the actual movie, without any music whatsoever and you built it all from 0. I have a friend who did that a couple of times but he is too crazy too discuss with about the process laugh.gif
