Hi Gab!
Anywhere from 1-2 hours a night. Been averaging around 2 hours a night for the past few weeks.

Excellent!

Let's build a technique routine for this week:

Warming up (5 minutes)

Alternate Picking (20 minutes)

Legato (20 minutes)

Hybrid Picking (20 minutes)

Sweep Picking (20 minutes)

Do you have lessons that you want to learn or are learning that fit on this topics?

I have been working on Sweep Picking Major and Minor from this lesson:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Sweeps_Major_and_Minor/

As far as Legato I don't have anything on that.
The Brian Setzer lesson I'm working on does have a little Hybrid Picking as well.
What would you suggest for legato/alternate picking?

I want to learn it all biggrin.gif

Woo!
I think those look good. The picking one really picks up at the end for a challenge and the Hammer on Pulll off Etude is definitely in a type/style that I'm not used to playing in. That will be a challenge. Love the classical feel to them both.

It's a good thing the boss is gone today so I can practice/play at work cool.gif

My question to you or any instructor is, when do we start posting examples of our work/progress? Should I wait until I feel it's perfect or do you require an update ever week/every other week....just curious. I wasn't sure of what the protocol was.

There is no protocol about this. You can post takes every time you want and we will give you feedback and monitor your progress. You can doo it diary, weekly. From my experience, tips given at the right moment can makes us use our time wisely.

Alright thanks Gab. Don't worry I won't post every gosh darn little take. I'll probably only post when I feel I have reached a certain level of completion on the task or when I'm stuck.

Y'know because of this forum and the Gary Moore Collab I have rediscovered my love for Gary Moore. Years ago I let a friend borrow a CD and I never got it back so this week I re-purchased "The Best of the Blues" and I'm just loving it, particularly "The Stumble"
Such a fun song. Have you heard it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0nKJFVVoYM

Although on the way home from the market today I was enjoying some Evile - Thrasher. That right hand...oh man sounds like a machine.

Cool links! I have heard many Gary Moore songs but never been very into his discography. I love his playing and phrasing but even more the feeling of his playing. Have you checked Jonathan Burgos lesson in the style of Gary?

And the other band... what a powerful song! They remind me to Slayer, I missed this band.. what can you tell me of them?

Good morning Gab! Hope you're doing well. I am still working on the lessons you gave me (as well as the Lessons from Cosmin) I think within the next few days I will start recording and refining the lessons that Cosmin gave me so I can be graded on them. The alternate picking lesson you gave me is fairly easy until the end! tongue.gif So I've been trying to iron out those parts. Problem is I get enticed with so many other things I want to learn. Lately I've been working through an old lesson of yours as it has techniques I was already working on myself before I came to GMC.

I was curious what does someone like you practice on a daily basis? I think most would consider you a 'professional' here on this forum. What does a professional work on in a day-to-day basis?

Hi mate, great to hear from you! You have made a very interesting question that will make you feel more relaxed. Guitar and music are infinite, it's a never-ending learning process and it depends on how much you love it and how ambitious you are. As you said here, I work professionally as a musician, I have a working band that plays every weekend and I am also the music composer, (and even the producer of the first two albums). Having a band and being a composer can occupy a lot of your time, and it's also part of the learning. But this can make difficult to keep a diary practice. The good thing is that I have GMC that keeps me all the time learning new things and working on new lessons, preparing Vchat exercises and keep me in contact with professional guitarists playing different styles.

Another cool thing is that I'm finding the time again to work on my guitar playing, I save some of my diary time to practice since I think that it keeps me evolving, it keeps me fresh. I usually put goals, and my current goals are: expanding the styles that I play on guitar, maintaining, improving and polishing my guitar technique. I design guitar plans for me every week in a notepad and work on them every day I can. I mostly use GMC lessons for it, but also some YouTube stuff (old clinics that I used to play when I was a teenager).

That's really interesting Gab and I appreciate your detailed response. It's nice to hear from someone so skilled that they too are constantly sharpening their skills and working on improvement. It keeps me motivated to continue down the long path. I'm not sure where it will all end up but as long as I'm stretching and growing as a guitar player and person, I believe the journey will be worth it.

Thanks for the Vchat today, there were some excellent exercises in there that I'm excited to try out when I get home. Keep rocking!
