I know that some people are naturally 'Tone Deaf' and can't differentiate between notes that are close together and that some people are completely Tone Deaf and can't relate to notes of any pitch at all.
I also know that Dogs hearing is a huge amount more acute than our own but still, to teach a dog to do this is pretty incredible:-

These two dogs are so cute wub.gif

My first impression, besides amazement was if this was really genuine?
In this video where two dogs play, they are kinda doing it automatically sometimes and not sure how they are in sync with the whistle...?

Could it be that they are trained to press certain notes/patterns not necessarily matching the pitch by "ear training"?

I love dogs, and these two are really cute!

I can't tell if it's real or not though.

I think it's definitely real although not necessarily through the ear as much as through training.

Yes it is real. I first saw this video about 2 years ago and did some followup research on it. However, I believe most humans have "perfect" pitch too only they don't realize it. We're often pitch perfect in speech and take after the exact "melody" of our parents speech. Most people disregard this and think that musical pitch is something different. I don't think it is, it's just subconcious and autonomous, while we try in music to learn something that is concious.

We had a practice of learning the A440 at music school. It was only about to spend some time with a pitch pipe - everyday. In deed most of us was able to recreate the note next day. But...not always wink.gif
