I cut out a part that was unnecesary. This should be better:

Hi Cael! This is very promising. There are many cool grooves here. Once of my favorite parts is the section when you play clean arpeggios... I think that the song could have more of it. I like the fact that the progressive riffs have melodic sense... that's the direction that works better to make your tracks more listened friendly.

Keep on the good job!

Thanks, Gabriel smile.gif I've finished the song. Check the other thread if you haven't already smile.gif

Actually this should be a better version, as I made a mistake in the original one, but I can't be bothered to change all the links now, so it'll remain that way untill maybe someday I release an EP biggrin.gif

Also I'm working on a playthrough video of the song, but it's difficult as I want multiple angles.

Hi Cael!! Congrats on a new song finished!! smile.gif

As I've said in the other thread, I really liked this one. It's a good idea to record a playthrough! It can attack more viewers, go for it!

New song in the works, in my usual slow and ponderous prog metal style. I also still really wanna make a video for the other song, but it takes a lot of work it feels like.

Very raw recording and not my best work, but I think I'll stick by it and call it the 5th song of the album.

Cool Cael! The tune has some nice things happening. I think that it can be shorter, so what I would to is try to see which are the weak parts in order to delete them and keep the stronger sections, avoiding too many repetitions... I think that it can make this one much catchy for listeners...

It is of course a bit of a compromise music and genre wise, as I'm not 100% focused on practicing technique and getting better, but I'm trying to write within my means, and improve as a song writer. Not everything has to be 16th notes at 180 bpm smile.gif

Wise words! I believe that's the most important thing... making music. I've decided to focus on composition around 15 years ago and I'm totally happy with it. I always dedicate some time to practice and learning more about styles and theory, but my focus has been on composition for my band, GMC, parallel projects, etc.

Do you have any tips for recording playthrough videos? smile.gif I'm still thinking about recording some, but it seems to take more energy than recording a song in Reaper. Maybe because I've never done it before.

Hi mate,

I think that it's a good idea to do it. It's true that it's more demanding but you'll get more in different aspects:

- You will gain experience recording videos.
- You'll have to be able to play the track perfect by once.
- You'll have to train yourself to feel comfortable when the rec light is on.
- People will get more attracted by the track and your music.

Some tips about the recording:

- Lightening is very important. Take your time to find place where you can get good light, it can even be daylight. I can say this element is more important than the camera quality.
- Show your face and both hands on the video.
- Use a cool background. The cooler and more unique the background, the more views you'll have.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions, Gabriel smile.gif

Meanwhile I've started working on something related to the project, but a bit different. I've tried combining the songs, re-arranging some bits and so on, so instead of 5 songs I'm now working on one long song, which is 33 minutes long. Wooooooaaah! biggrin.gif True prog metal style with long songs smile.gif I'll still have it split up in 7-8 different parts though, so one can still listen to just one part.

Here's part one so far, not recorded totally perfect:

Oops, uploaded the wrong file, there's a mistake in the keyboards smile.gif

New version of what I have so far. It's not mixed, so there's a lot to fix.

Awesome! Some kind of A Change Of Season album... sounds great for me! It always attacks me when albums are conceptual and songs are related. Maybe you can give this a "lyric" concept by adding voices, noises, fxs and things that help to tell a story... just some quick brainstorming...

The track sounds great! I like it. I've heard it yesterday twice and today once. I enjoy it. Well done.

Some kinda A Change of Seasons, indeed. I'm not Dream Theater though, so it won't even be a quarter as good as that song or album, but it's fun trying. It's a monster to record though. I want to record the parts better than I have earlier, and it's turning out to be a bit tricky to get things as tight as I want them to be.

Take your time to master it, a whole album play through could be a killer addition.
