I have been practicing Pink Floyd stuff lately and as most of you know there is lots and lots of string bending with this music. The problem I am having is not the bend but the noise created by the OTHER strings when I reliece the bend. When you bend the string up your binger contacts the strings above the string you are bending. When I reliece the bend I hear the string noise. What am I doing wrong? Should the other strings be palm muted? Help.

Gilmour bends a lot doesn;t he? Some pretty severe 5 semitone bends in Another Brick in the Wall for instance.

As with all aspects of playing, muting is key, so try and keep the strings above the bend muted with your picking hand, and also, make sure that when you do big bends your fretting fingers go under the higher strings, that helps with the release, since it will likely slide up and down your fingernail which is smooth. When you come to release, having that the higher strings muted should also help prevent the noise.

What i usually do when bending to avoid the noise is.

E---------------------------------
B-------------(7)-8------------ Pick this string and bend up
G----------(6)-|--|------------ Bend this string up with the B string at the same time,
D-----------|------------------ ...so it doesn't collide.
A-------------------------------
E---------------------------------
Obviously that is pretty spread out. but I don't space my fingers out like that, its just an example of how i position them.

I don't know if that was any help or not.. or even what you were asking. But anyway smile.gif
