Pedal Problem

Just discovered my Morley Wah is responsible for my occasional signal loss. Every now and then, for some arcane reason it pushes my Planet Waves patch lead plug out of the socket. Just a little, possibly 1mm or so but its enough to break the signal. Suddenly everything stops, zero sound from amp. Its done this 2 or 3 times so far but luckily just at practice. Anyone had this happen to them or know of a quick fix? Its one of my fave pedals too.

Yes, I have had that happen. I don't know if specifically with a Morley pedal or not though.
Unfortunately, because SO MUCH electronic gear is manufactured in so many different places - with varying degrees of measurement oversight, there are discrepancies in the actual size of 1/4" jacks - both the male and female ends. I have a few cables that don't fit perfectly into some pedal jacks. I've also heard that many US pedal/amp/guitar builders recognize that this can be a problem.

I ran sound for a guy who had cable problems. He swore to me that he bought the wrong sized 1/4" cable. Bough a 'cheap japanese" 1/4". Seemed odd to me, but we looked at it, and it was juuuuuust slightly smaller than the input of his acoustic. Oddest thing I have ever seen.

I HAVE seen some cables having bulky or different shaped plugs that don't work pedals that have a recessed input. Try a new cable first.

Thank you Ken and CJ. I notice that the Morley socket provides a really tight fit to the Planet Waves plugs I use. All the other pedals feel normal when I plug them in but the Morley I have to really really push to get it in. Now I just pulled out a spare PW plug and laid it on my desk next to a cheap moulded patch lead (JHS pack of 5for £1.99) and there is a marked difference in diameter. The PW are ,to my old eyes at least, close to a mm thicker. I can only assume that the Morley socket is within its narrower tolerance range and PW plugs are at the upper tolerance. Weird how I never came across this before, I have swapped the PW for the cheapy one now and, of course,am getting a little signal noise. Any recommendations for a patch lead manufacturer that is likely to fit the Morley and is as good as PW?

Totally a weird thing right?

This is the cable from your guitar to your wah? or just a small patch cable?

Totally weird. It's just a 6" patch cable from my EHX Riddle to the Wah.

My little girl was born Monday morning. Both mom and baby are doing fantastic. It's our first, so we had no idea what to expect, but everything went fantastic.

Thanks for asking. We're getting some photos done next week and the photographer wants to incorporate guitars and such in a few pictures. Can't say no to that. tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif Maybe I'll make a post.

Congratulations Fella. I am pleased it went well and both mum and baby are well. And what do you mean Maybe? Of course you must post some pics. Loving the guitar theme of the photo shoot. Very very cool.
