I'm just curious where some people draw the line. I'm setting up my patches in my POD HD and was thinking I mainly kinda go "Oh that sounds Heavy metal so it goes here and that sound rock and that goes in my crunch folder"

I guess its all personal taste and application but how do you draw the line in the sand

I classify 'crunch' as less distortion than a typical, modern lead guitar tone.
Maybe more of a rhythm sound.

Very interesting question! This line must be very subjective. To me first sound that comes to mind when you say crunch is the moment when chords start breaking out and do not sound clean anymore. It is the point where if you would strum some chords you would still hear the individual strings ringing together, like a more defined tone. As you bring in the drive , the "strings" break apart and "unison" sound starts forming where you can't really make out what is going on rather hear one big sound. This is what I would classify as Distortion or High Gain (Heavy Metal) sound. Thinking of it now - this subjective impression sounds a bit weird, but that is how a I imagine it at the moment while writing this.

Yeah I thought it was a little intresting on how people define the diffrence to themselves. With tube amps its less of a line because you kinda of have your channels pre determined but when use moddlers you kinda have to organise your tones so you kinda have to think of it a little more because you want to be able to pull it up reasonablly quickly
