Not sure if it will work, but we've talked some about the cost of purchasing a guitar from another country and having to pay duty tax.

The idea occurred to me, when I so generously and selflessly offered to allow Cosmin to store his Ibanez at my house (to which I am sure he is thrilled and relieved), that if you sent the cash to someone in the country where the guitar is located, that person could purchase it and send it to you - but it would be called, "lending it out" just to get around the paperwork and duty tax. Shipping would be added, but that may be a loop hole.

So basically Jack lives in Country A, and Jill lives in country B.

A guitar sells for $300 in country B and $600 in country A.

Jack PayPals Jill the $300, plus the $160 for shipping. Jill purchases the guitar as her own - and then mails it to Jack to "borrow" forever.

Nyerk, Nyerk, Nyerk.

Would that work?

Also maybe a way to get a vintage guitar from another country and avoid duty tax.

Tax evasion is the illegal, so shh we will never do this 'wink, wink'...

Have you been reading 'What rich parents teach their kids'? Only the rich is meant to find out these loop holes to avoid tax.

ps: IRS can tell the money flows and will detect this method if a pattern occurs. You would also have to know and trust the other person. You can bypass this by sending the cash as a 'loan' rather than a 'gift', but then that person should have to pay it back in the future.

This is the part where I remind everyone that GMC does not in any way, shape or form condone the violation of any local/regional/international laws smile.gif

Haha - We are just friendly chatting about it, it's not like the US Government have spent billions of their own legal Tax Payers money on wasting their time spying online at their citizens (globally).

ps: I don't know if you know what 'Nyerk' actually means, but it's internet slang for 'Replacement Swear-word', so I'm assuming you meant it as NSA. laugh.gif

DISCLAIMER: This user loves dark satire comedy, stereotyping to the extreme and joking. Nothing he says should be taken seriously and is merely white noise to screw up and waste more of your government funds until you have bankrupted your country and it's citizens rise up.

I failed to mention that I would personally NEVER condone such infantile behavior.
