If you're able to try this in a store, if it slide around on your leg. Go grab a strap and toss it on, it will make the world of a difference. I actually play mine with a strap sitting all the time, with how light the guitar is you won't even notice it has a strap on.

I love the look of that S, minus I would love to see that with no dot inlays. My S770 has two styles the 770 has some squiggly inlays where the 771 has dots. I would love to own one without inlays altogether.

Nice! Return policies are great. smile.gif is there a penalty for returns?

Thanks man - good stuff to consider.

I honestly think I am about to pull the trigger on this prestige - the only thing I wish it had was some decorative binding. It comes with a hardshell case and there is a 30 day return policy on it.

Going to marinate on it for a bit.

Awesome Todd - I think I like that middle one the best. Would you suggest a particular pickup replacement for this guitar?

If I'd consider a guitar with a mid. single, I'd think hard on the split positions;

Neck paf-pro or similar hotter paf types are safe bets as they have enough highs for nice cleans and attack feels is great for shred. Mid. would be vintage alnico (I think even the white jem uses non-noiseless, classic single pickup with evo.s which are very aggressive). Bridge can be anything you want, with slight height adjustment even the most agressive or low-to-mid. output humbucker should blend nicely smile.gif

Aren't these all Indonesian made guitars though? Because I thought you told me to be leery of the Indonesian made Ibanezes but Japanese and Korean were okay?

Depends a TON on what you are going for and what you like. I've been a big fan of the new ALTERNATIVE 8 from seymour duncan as it uses an ALNICO 8 magnet and works with nearly any wood. For about the same price as a nice duncan, especially a custom shop model duncan, you can get a hand wound pickup built to your needs/specs by an outfit like homewrecker pickups. I am using two guitars with homewreckers in them right now. One is the PUNISHER series and one is a custom one off build that he made for me after listening to me play in my vids.

Another option is pretty much any Bareknuckle, especially the JUGGERNAUT and and even the HOLY DIVER. They used to be a lot more "hand made" than they are now that they have gotten to be so crazy popular. These days they are almost like custom shop duncans imho smile.gif

With pickups, you really do need to hear/play them as it's too late if you have it installed sad.gif See if you can go to gtr center and try as many different pups as possible. Usually the USED instruments have wads of various pickups in them from upgrades.

This is the hand wound punisher set.

As far as I know, ibanez always made deals with independent factories until they made one in Indonesia and that one is getting better and better each year. For example my guitar was the top of the line RG in the 90's, I researched a bit and body was made in Cort factory while neck was Fgn (Japan).

This don't really work like other companies as quality doesn't mean country. For example the current Paul Gilbert model is made in China, the limited run (25) again Paul Gilbert guitars were made by Sugi which again is in japan and only has 3-4 master luthiers smile.gif

They provide the wood, parts and a master luthier to educate the workers in the X factory. The Indo factory hired new workers so specially first year runs had slight complications, was the workers build more guitars issues get solved.

Basically just consider the price and make a visual inspection before you buy an İbanez, simplifying quality to country (specially, considering other brands) doesn't work on ibanez.

I read that when they set up their premier factory in Indonesia they had some of the Japanese guys stay to oversee the operation.
Im absolutely blown away with my S premier.

Thanks guys I was wondering if there was much of a slip in quality. I am still waiting on a decision. I've been to 2 music stores and 3 pawn shops, and not many worthy Ibanez guitars in my area to play. Mostly this Gio model starter guitar.

I did try a Suhr and it was nice, felt good, but didn't blow me away - too close to my PRS's and I guess I just want an Ibanez. The funnest guitar I played this week was my friends Les Paul - the one he has had for close to 20 years and I've played many times - we just took turns jamming to what ever came on the radio while his son was taking a nap.

Anyway - for the price of that Prestige (which does come with a hardshell case) I could get the spalted top Ibanez like Space Monkey had with a hard case and 2 8" KRK Rockit Generation 3 speakers to replace my Rockit 5s and still be under the price I would pay for the Prestige.

Thing is, I don't really need another guitar - so if I get another guitar I would like one that is super special.

But I would like the new bigger 8" monitors.

Anyway - I have an electrician coming to the house today to fix a problem - all this really depends on how much I have to pay him and how extensive the repair is.

Cool smile.gif

If you endup deciding on speaker replacement, compare 6" vs 8" before going to 8". Since you play guitar I'd guess mid. freq. is most sensitive to your liking and I generally prefer 6-7 to 8 on and nearfield speaker.

GREAT! Something else to consider!!!! Actually, the bigger speakers will be to help out the electronic drum set. Sometimes, depending on volume, the actual "clack" of the sticks hitting the pads is louder than what comes through the speakers.

I was talking mostly on used guitars in terms of country of origin. If you are buying a used axe, you can find a nice MIJ or MIK not much different in price than an Indonesian.

If you are looking at a NEW axe, your choices are limited to JAPAN or Indonesian as they don't make them in Korea anymore. In which case the jump price can be staggering. I would not suggest anyone spend the kind of cake involved in a jcraft/MIJ new Ibby for their FIRST ibanez. After all, you may find it's not for you in the long run. smile.gif

IF volume for a electronic kit is the goal, I'd avoid putting it through your monitors unless you are doing recording/mixing. You can put the kit through a cheap bass amp and it will sound just fine smile.gif A 100 watt bass combo will do the job. Also, you can get a mono pa with two speaker quite cheaply, especially used. And a cheap pa makes a great system for monitoring your electronic drums. smile.gif

HAHAHA!!! Well, I'm just .... every thing up then! biggrin.gif

As far as the Rockit 8's. I purchased them - because it is mostly for recording, but, it's also for practice - and if I want to use the midi tones of EZ Drummer, I have to run the drums through Logic. If I were to use an amp or a PA, I'd need to rely on the drum brain. It would work great in a jam situation, but all my stuff is rigged to go through Logic for multitrack recording.

Also - I went ahead and got the Prestige.

Figured if I didn't like it I would return it in 30 days and I have a great relationship with my salesperson at Sweetwater, so, the only thing I would have to pay to return it is the return shipping fee - at that point I would purchase the S-Series birds eye finish and count the loss to experience.

So - I'm a little nauseated by spending the money, and a little happy too.

I figured, I just purchased 2 mid-range guitars. The Jackson and the PRS, and I really, really, do not need another guitar, but, I WANT ONE, and if I'd purchased another I wanted it to be a higher end guitar - so, because it is the 4th of July, and people tend to drink more than they typically do - I said to myself "screw it!!!!".

So - anyway, i got these...

I like you're way of thinking Bleez!

I'll have to quote you on that when my wife says, "I'd don't remember ever seeing that guitar".

Here's the full specs of it - I just purchased this serial number:

Congratulations, I have been looking at that S model as well. You get an extremely well built lightweight guitar which is also super versatile with H-S-H, smooth/shreddy neck, and the whole double-locking floyd rose thing with some added innovative functionality.

I can't really see you ever regret this purchase!

Gotta say that's some fine gear!!!!

Super congrats smile.gif I'm guessing that guitar is a keeper. I always urge caution when folks are buying their first of a given brand, but if you got the budget, that axe is a GREAT way to go!!!! It's nicer than any IBBY I've ever owned to be honest. Enjoy!!! Those 8 inch KRK are a great addition to any home studio. All in all two great buys!!!
