Hi guys! I'm currently working on this lesson (Finnish power metal III : Nightwish by Gabriel) and I think to post my effort so far (140 bpm) in order to get some feedback and advice.

Hi Kalidia! I think that you are on the right track with this lesson. You are playing the different riffs correctly and now it's time adjust details and keep on practicing to achieve faster tempos. I think that the main thing that you have to focus is timing and groove. This metal style requires to be play very tight and this is not happening on your take. Here are some ideas to make this happen:
- Work on each part as a different exercise using a drum loop or metronome. After some repetitions, you will be able to put all your concentration just in timing and going tight with the drums. - Move your body and head following the groove while you play. You will have more errors at first but your playing will be more groovy. Then, with practice you will achieve both precision and groove. - Close your eyes, listen to the backing and just concentrate on the rhythm and groove. Feel it, sing or imagine the riffs being played perfectly. - Play with more dynamics, give more life to your playing. Some parts should sound more aggressive than others, identify which ones and practice the lesson exaggerating dynamics. This is not an easy lesson, I remember that it took me some practice to play all those riffs and variations tight and without errors. Ok I've followed the advices and i come up with this (tempo is lower than the previous ), i hope there are some improvement. If there are any i will continue working on this and then raise the tempo! Let me know

You took our comments, and understood that it was time to go for a slower backing to be able to focus on details that will help you to master the lesson and take your rhythm playing to a new level. Your take is much tighter now, and the tone that you got on this one is very strong. Power chords sound full and the palm muting is very precise! Congratulations. There are some parts where things become a bit blurry like that moment when the lesson has fast power chord changes (around 1:07), so maybe you can still continue working on this sections as isolated exercises. Dynamics are better on this one, but there is something that you have to pay attention to give some riffs the correct intention and accentuation. The use of alternate picking vs downpicking seems to be the same but it isn't. The resulting sound and intention is very different. I would wonder how the Ramones would have sound without Johny's downpicking playing on their faster songs. It sounds more agressive, more accentuated. I recommend to analyze your your right hand movements and compare them with the used by me on the lesson (do this every time you are working on a lesson). Check the riff starting at 00:26 for example. When I heard it on you take I said, this one need to sound different... I compared it with my take and I noted that the difference was the use of some downpicking which make it sound more aggressive, more industrial, like the lesson requires it. So, to summarize, you are doing a killer job, keep on working thinking on this details and start to slowly increase the tempo concentrating on everything you've been working. Keep on rocking!

I only have one thing to add - don't spread yourself too thin by trying to get them all done at once I'd tackle them one by one and make sure each is in good shape, before going on to the next one Would you be interested in having your own mentoring thread in which we could discuss each of these lessons at a time and monitor your progress?

The ones by Darius and Piotr are among my favorites. You can go for one or two of these ones, but try to stay focused on less stuff but in a deeper way. Don't work on more than 2 lessons based on the same technique/topic at the same time.
