> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner's Corner 13: C Major Scale by Bear Rose

Bit rushed, REC button syndrome. Rip it

Hi Phil! Good job! It's good to see that you are working hard and that the improvements are happening!

I can notice important improvements comparing this take with the previous one. At first, your guitar sounds well tuned now, and that's not a small thing. Timing is getting better, but as you noticed, you are still going a bit before the beat. This can be an "anxiety" factor that appears when you start recording with your camera. How to solve it? Just keep on practicing with the camera recording, it's the only way to transcend the rec button syndrome.

Another thing that is better on this take is your vibrato. I can notice that this technique is getting much more consistent comparing to previous takes so you are on the right track, just keep on working hard! smile.gif

Based on this comments you can suspect that my final word is congratulations! smile.gif

Hey Phil!

I will congratulate you, as you are clearly progressing, mate! Good going biggrin.gif

We have commented this long and hard in your mentoring thread, so I will just emphasize on the important aspect that need further attention:

Timing - your rushing most likely occurs, as Gabi said, because of you being a bit scared of that red light, so just take it easy, relax and things will be better wink.gif

Keep rocking!

Hi Phil, this is a good take.

As the lads said, maybe a little in front of the beat occasionally but nothing too drastic. This is much more controlled in terms of tempo than your initial REC takes of the chord strumming lesson so you should be pleased about that !

My only main criticism is when you slide prematurely down to the root note at 00:15 and again for all the other repetitions. What I would do there is keep the note hanging (with vibrato) and then play the root note only when it's time. Moving to a note before it's time to play it can often make things sound like they're uncoordinated, unless it's a deliberate phrasing movement.

Overall, great work !
