> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner Solo in D by Muris Varajic

Here's a new take from me! Thanks to all the instructors for the constructive feedback a few days ago. I took it seriously and really tried to implement changes. Unfortunately I have yet to perfect the sweep lick and it is still sloppy. I am still facing difficulties reaching the 12th fret consistently. Aside from that I felt pretty good about everything else. I did try to add a bit more emotion and confidence to this take. I hope you guys can hear an improvement. I am working hard to become a better player and enjoy being a member of this community. Thanks again!

Hi mate! I'm really glad of finding this take. You took each of the comments and worked on the details that we marked. You improved your vibrato, timing, tapping, alternate picking technique. It's awesome how fast your playing can evolve. If you keep this energy your playing will improve so fast!

As you said, the main thing that needs work on this lesson is your Sweep Picking technique. It's a technique that requires some time to feel it natural so be patient and work on other lessons that are most base on it. You need to get used to the pick motion and the synchronization between both hands. Work on the lesson that I shared on the previous version of this take and also search for more Sweep Picking lessons at GMC. There are lots of great ones.

Also, be sure that you make the connection between the previous phrase and the faster alternate picking lick smoother. It seems that you need more concentration for that lick and you don't end the previous one correctly. Just a detail.

Keep on rocking! wink.gif

Hey mate,

I think that aside Gabi's observations, you could develop your skills by using the exercises provided by the lessons below:

Try to work out some of the sweeps presented here and you will definitely improve your technique wink.gif Please implement Gabi's suggestions first things first and you will definitely improve the take.

All the best and keep rocking!

I can definitely see that you're trying to improve your reach with that sweep lick. You're almost there !

You do manage to play very well considering that your finger span isn't that large. I'll send you a P.M. about that aspect of things

Your bending technique is just brilliant. You have an excellent way with tone and expression. On that side of things I'd say you're very much heading towards the advanced level of things... tone and expression will always count for more than flash technique.

Well done !
