Hi Alex! Good first take for the timing assignment. Please work on it some more days and share a new take. You are close but it's not totally tight. Sometimes the problem is the second 8th note of each beat which is played a bit before it should. But this is not a bad work, you are on the right track. Just more practice!

Excellent Let's see if I can manage to record a Frusciante video too now when my timing has improved. Ok, but please have in mind that there is more work to do before you could master timing on phrasing. -------------------- My lessons

I guess it is better to wait until the timing work is finished before uploaded a frusciante video. Just out of curiosity how much more of the timing work remains? We'll do everything we need to do until you could play solos with good timing. I think that timing is more related to our mind than to our hands and fingers, so we need to work on this until your mind does that click we need. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Alex, thanks for this take. Your timing needs work with this note value. You are not going tight with the tempo. If you listen to the backing with attention you'll notice that hi hat is going in 8ths, so you have to go tight with it. Please continue practicing it, and if you don't find it we have to go a bit slower with this one.

Excellent! I'll be online for questions and feedback regarding the things that students have been working so be sure to be there with your guitar to ask me or show me everything you'd like. We can talk about the different workouts and courses:

Hey Gabriel!
I am back with a new take on the timing assignment, and my opinion on this take is that I do not play it tight so I assume we have to go with a slower backing. https://soundcloud.com/alex-arvedahl/105-funky-rhythm-timing This weekend I have wanted to do a jam, so I jammed a bit this morning with the backing from Carlos Carrillo's lesson https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...-c-sharp-minor/ I feel like in the somewhere in the middle I was out of ideas but I was able to come back ok in the end. I really enjoy doing these jams, I will definitely try to do them more regularly in the future, both because I think I can learn much from it but also because they are really fun to do This post has been edited by HiimAlex: May 17 2015, 11:47 AM |

Hi Alex!
Yes, you're right, we need to go slower with the timing workout. Could you please practice and record and audio playing 4th notes over this funky backing? About the improvisation, it's really good to see you improvising. Let's do an exercise this week: - Play the chords along with the backing track. Just rhythm. Try to make the chord changes on the same area of the fret-board. Using the caged system shapes, play the chords that are closer to be able to play the whole progression on the same place. - Once you can visualize each of the chords. Play again over the backing but this time instead of playing the chords, play 1 note of each chord when the chord is sounding. Once again, it's better if you play notes that are close. For example, if the first chord is A, start playing 6th fret on 3rd string, then when C sharp minor sound, play 5th fret on 2nd string... and so. - Practice this on different parts of the neck and using different notes from the chords. Record your self doing it and share it here. - If you feel that this backing has too many chords, you can try it with another ones that has less chords. Is the task clear? -------------------- My lessons

Hey Gabriel!
Here is a attempt playing quarter notes over the backing https://soundcloud.com/alex-arvedahl/timing-quarter-notes-funky-105-bpm The task sounds definitely interesting and clear to me. I want to share a cool video I found on YouTube a while ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKshNVElKuc |

Hi Alex,
The 4th notes are not totally tight yet so please work on them for 3 days and share a new take here, ok? I'll also wait for a video of you playing the improvisation task in 3 days. The video sounds very cool! Besides the use of the fret capo which makes it unique I think that there are many killer riffs on that track. Very interesting. -------------------- My lessons
