I have tried to play the City and Colour but the stretch in the in the first bar was difficult for me.
I found this lesson https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Introd...Travis-Picking/ I have wanted to learn fingerstyle for quite some time so I am currently practicing that one instead of City and Colour smile.gif

Hi Gab,

An update from me.
I have recorded a new take for Goo Goo Dolls at 80 BPM, in the last take there was timing issues.

To me it might be some timing issues in the first 2-3 bars but apart from that I think it sounds good.
What do you think about it?

Also here is a short video for the Beginner Vibrato. There is no backing track or metronome. I am just trying to get familar with the technique and would like some advice. I have never done classical vibrato before, am I doing it right? Should I use more or less motion?

Edit: I did record a take for my Ear Training exercise. The melody is "O Come All Ye Faithful". I did only look at the tab to see the first note, apart from that I have been trying to figure it out by listening and looping over sections.
When I listen to it now, it sounds like there is a few notes that's off. Since some sections are pretty fast, it was tricky at times.

Hi mate!

Here is an update from me.

Goo Goo Dolls
The last take I sent to you had timing issues at the difficult A/C# chord. Apart from that you said it sounded fine.
I think this take sounds better and is tighter. I have practiced it both with the backing track and the original video.
I can not tell if I am playing tight all the time or not.
Here is a new take:

Acoustic Solo in C Major
Last take had timing issues in the beginning and also in the bar after the harmonics.
Here is a new take which I think is tighter and better vibrato.
Same here, I can't tell if I play tight all the time.

Vibrato
Last time you said I should start the vibrato slower and grow it gradually. You said to be more consistent with the movement.
And you also mentioned to check Ben's Vibrato Odyssey.
I have checked it out and tried to work on my hand movement but I feel like it needs more practice.

Travis Picking
I have not shared a video of this before.
I have learnt all the 4 patterns that is in the video and wanted to share it.
Perhaps I am playing everything a bit too quiet and soft. I am practicing the chord progression in video 7 in the original lesson at 86 BPM and the original speed is 110 BPM.

Composition/Improvisation
I have checked your course here https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lessonser...ing-Essentials/ and found this progression I like C Am F G. I have been jamming over it and trying to make sure I end phrases on a chord tone which is difficult.
I think it's difficult because then I need to think about what chord is playing, what are the chord tones and where they are on the fretboard.

Quite a long post today. What do you think? smile.gif

Have a nice day

Thank you very much for the comments. I thought they are clear and made sense. I recently started playing the Travis Picking over a backing track but didn't include it on the video.

Also do you think its better to have a longer post update for all sections or shorter more frequent post for just some sections?

Happy new year to you too!

Here is a video with a few melodies over the chord progression. Scale is C Major at 80 BPM.

I tried to keep a quite simple melody and some pauses but there are some phrases which I don't like.
I have listened to it a few times, I think I should keep it simpler and keep it more melodic.

Here is also the video of me playing the chord progression at 80 BPM which I used as a backing track.

Hi Gab,

How are you?
I have some new takes I would like some feedback on.

Sorry that the lighting is bad, the sun goes down early here.

Acoustic Solo
I have been practicing the parts where I have had timing issues.
I think it is better here, but I did not pay as much attention to vibrato

Vibrato
I continue to practice the classical vibrato but I also started learning Circle vibrato which I saw in Ben's Vibrato Odyssey 2.
The circle vibrato is quite difficult right now. Here is a take with both of them.

Improvisation
I tried to pay attention to these things you mentioned last time.
My timing is better here in my opinion and more melodic.

Ear Training
I need some help with my ear training. I am practicing intervals as you know. I have practiced C major scale right now. 1 octave is easy and then I am able to identify them correctly. I have been practicing intervals many octaves in C major for 2 months now. I have improved but I still struggle and mix them up a bit. Do you have any advice how to get better with identifying intervals in many octaves?

Good job! You timing is much better here. There are some notes that sound after the beat but most of the parts are sounding good. I recommend you to continue practicing this one focusing on timing until you feel more comfortable with it. It should become a second nature, and then, start adding vibrato and other expressive elements like dynamics.

Excellent! You vibrato starts to sound strong and more consistent! Now you can try over backing tracks. You can combine your improvisation practice and use any backing track to train your vibrato. The idea is that you play only vibrato but over a backing track that provides a groove and a tonality... so you need to follow a scale, and a tempo. Does it make sense?

Yes! Now your playing is more melodic and your timing is better. You are right. This is the direction. You need to continue practicing your improvisation skills. I think that it would be interesting for you to try over different backing tracks so be exposed to different grooves and styles.

For example:

It's not easy, and requires daily practice. I recommend you using any cellphone app every day and go slowly with this task. Recognizing intervals only by ear can be tricky so you need to give you some time to get used to it. However, using your guitar should be easier.

What are you using to practice intervals?
