Sorry for the weird title, I really don't know how to explain it.

Between 0:47 and 0:49:

It looks like he just strikes the strings behind the nut but when I try to do the same thing my pickups don't pick anything up dry.gif

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks guys! cool.gif

He is striking the strings behind the nut for sure but I don't know how he's getting it to scream like that.

Your guitar should pick up sound.. it will sound like a jangly kind of noise... but when I do it it doesn't scream like that. Weird.

Anybody else know how it's done ?

That is unique to Fender (or any F style guitar with 6 tuners on a side) headstock's my friends.
Specifically Telecasters but you can get it with strats, jazzmasters and jaguars.
There's a lot of string behind the nut to ring.

*You can not have a locking nut.

Put a ton of gain on it, hit it hard and it just does it.
Try lightly putting your first finger across the strings as if you were going to strike harmonics on all 6 strings at either the 5th, 7th or 12th fret. Sometimes that will help the 'scream'.

It sounds cool!I've never get that scream doing it! I can imagine that it could be possible maybe with a Digitech Whammy... don't you think so?

John 5 gives a good use to that part of the strings, I've seen him adding some bending from there. Go to 00:33 on this video:

Nice one, Gab! I didn't even think of that - I was thinking possibly some sort of boost to bump up the gain.

John 5 is the man! More behind the nut fun:

We have that effect featured in one of our songs smile.gif One older song that didn't make it on the EP and we are making it on a Gibson Les Paul and my PRS Paul Allender - but nonetheless, both non locking trem guitars smile.gif
