Baaaaruuuutal Gain On 11 Rack Options

I keep reading on various forums (ahem, sevenstring.org) that the 11 RACK is simply not built for high gain settings. I beg to differ. The problem lies in simply not building the patch just as you would a regular high gain patch. E.G. Pre eq on the signal in the patch before the gain stage. To With. Please do take a listen to the most brutal patch I think I've ever built. I would put it up against anything, on any platform, anywhere for pure BAAARRUUUTTAAALLnes




This tone is based on the AMAZING Bogner Ecstasy 101b which costs $3,500!!!!!!! E Freaking Gad!!!

It's a beast of an amp that costs more than a used car. The good news is, the fine folks at AVID did a great job in profiling the amp and stuffed it in the 11 rack for folks like us Of course, it doesn't sound like this by itself. It takes some tweaking in the patch. But the amp has the tone in it. You just have to tweak it out.

I'm still trying to understand how to effectively use the EQ. Right now I just turns knobs on the para EQ until it starts to sound different

Also, is there a big difference in tone from headphones and studio monitors? Right now all I have is a pair of Senheisser headphones and everything sounds a little fizzy - I'm thinking those JBL's might work a bit better?

Thanks Believe it or not, that's exactly how I learned to E.Q. You have to just dig in and get your hands dirty with it before it starts to make real sense IMHO.
If it sounds fizzy, it's probably your tone, not your monitoring solution.


Quick Tip: Try using the 8x10 bass cabinet instead of the guitar cabs. That's my secret sauce on non fizz Also, try the Ribbon Mic instead of the stock SM57. It's just a matter of trying every combination of gear available. It takes time, just like learning guitar. I've spent countless hours on the 11 rack in order to dial up a tone like this. But finally got it!

I'm not a high-gain aficionado but that is pretty brutal!

*Ribbon mics are used frequently for capturing good, meaty distortion tones. Usually it's a combo of a 57 and a ribbon (and occasionally an LDC for some air and sparkle on the top).

A great feature on the POD HD Rack - but it would be blown out of the water if it was on the 11 rack

Dude that sound rocks as a raw track too!

By any chance do you have a gate tossed in there? I know with my Kemper I toss on clean OD then a gate afterwards and it really adds some of that chug sound that you have just a bit tighter as it cuts the signal short if you go up a little bit extra, almost I hate to say it.. Djentish.

BINGO!! I've got LOTS of gate on it or it would explode from noise to be honest. The trick is always to keep it clean and defined while making it it deeeepd and chunky. I threw on a PRE parametric EQ then the boost, then fx, then the amp, then the 8x10 bass cab.

Agreed!! I like AMP MIXING ON the GNX3 it will warp the two amps together which was a great feature Thankfully, each amp on the 11 sounds pretty spiff by itself.
