Hi Gab,
the compressor video was really great help to closer understand what it does and improve tone and sustain. Lets hear if I am going the right direction with my tone. Hi Tom!
Nice take! I think that your tone has improved a lot comparing this audio with the previous vid. It's better and more enjoyable in any sense. Please be careful with that bend at 1:02, and with the following licks that are not sounding tight. Hi Tom, nice job!
The lessons are going well. I think that it is a good moment to work on your tone. I think that it's needing some sustain, and some EQ tweek. It can be lowering a bit bass, or adding presence. I also think that some reverb or delay could make it sounds cooler. Experiment and try to get a tone closer to the original lesson. Your playing is good in the lessons. There is still some work to do to make everything sound smoother (there are some licks that sound a bit sloppy), adjust the bends in the final section of the part 1, and put more emphasis on vibrato. Yes, starting from zero can be a good idea as well as stay simple and try to get the more from the amp gain and EQ. Also, it's a good plan to try different amps until you hear the one that feels closer even without any tweak. Each amp has a different tone characteristic and maybe the one that you are trying is not the best choice.

Hi Tom!
GREAT job man! These ones are getting really close. I'm impressed of how you are changing chords smoothly and keeping the timing along the whole lessons! You can adjust a bit more the groove of the lessons, keep on playing it to make it more natural, but this is very good! Another thing that you could work is the use of Dynamics. Your strumming tends to keep the same intensity, while the lessons are playing with different intensities used as an expression tool. The tones also sound nice, being the Soul one much closer to the original lesson, the other sounds different but it's not bad. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab - its time for a new Santana video (pt1). I polish the two Santana lessons and the two rhythm lessons about 15min each daily, the rest of my practice time goes to scales, triads chords and here and there trying some chord progressions.

Hi Tom, good job!
I've watched your take twice before commenting. I can say that your playing is getting better. I notice that your vibrato is stronger and more connected with the groove, and that your timing is precise. I think that your bending tends to be a bit our of pitch and that your left hand is not comfortable with some of those patterns and licks. This second thing makes me thing that some left hand technique exercises for independence and just get more familiar with scale patterns and sequences could be a good idea. Do you think that you have at least 10 minutes per day for this? -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab, yes 10-15min are always possible. I could make an exercise as warmup. What do you have in mind?

Nice job on the second Santana lesson. I can see that your playing is becoming more expressing. The overall feel of your playing is enjoyable and that's not a bad thing. There are moments where I hear pitch issues, and once again the same left hand thing that I've noted in the other lesson so let's add those 10 minutes of technique.
I was thinking on taking the parts of this lesson as exercises. You can start with parts 1 and 2 this week, and work over metronome, starting at a comfortable tempo. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...picking-thirds/ What do you say? -------------------- My lessons

Hi Tom! Thanks for the videos! I never get tired of your vids!
 I think that each of the videos is sounding good but that your right hand needs special attention. On the rhythm lessons, there is more movement needed from your wrist to go better with the groove and to be able to give more dynamics. Try to play along with the instructor watching his hand, trying to emulate the way he moves his hand. About the technique exercise, your hand is looking like the old days regarding the way you hold the pick, do you note the difference? I remember that you could solve this issue but maybe it's not completely natural. The lesson also needs more movement from the wrist. Does it make sense? -------------------- My lessons

Not sure if I will ever get close. I start correctly but during the exercise my fingers are extending. Will try to fix this as well. Update today.... Rhythm - I was looking at GMC and on YT for instructions on hand movement (funk rhythm) to get a better understanding where you want me to develop to. Yeah! That James Brown lesson is a great example. That's the direction that you should take. I don't mean that it must be exactly like that, but closer to that way of moving the hand. The take on guido's lesson needs a similar tweak. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab - working hard 2hrs daily on the three rhythm lessons and the two Santana, guitar gym and some scales, triads, chords. I feel I should go for new lessons within the next 4-6 weeks as my progress slows down significantly. I learn and improve faster with new lessons after a certain time (lets say 6 months) instead of endlessly working on the same thing over and over again. Does it make sense?I looked a lot on funk players to get the rhythm movement. Things simply take time.

Hi Tom, yes, it makes sense.
I can say that your rhythm playing on that video is good! You can play tight with the drums at each moment. At this point your playing is a too soft most of the time, so working on dynamics is the next step for this one. I think that it would be good to work on new lesson, or at least take some random parts from lessons that are related to the ones that you are working and have some kind of info text to have reports of which parts of which lessons you've worked.
