Thanks Gab - I am getting a little tired of the three rhythm lessons and will put Guido's lesson for feedback on REC and continue working on the other two where I feel I can still make small improvements. Honestly, it's not necessary to continue playing this one if you keep playing any type of rhythm in your diary practice. It could even be some songs that you like... -------------------- My lessons

Yes, for sure I will dedicate time on rhythm playing every day.... with the two lessons I still work on and I will use additional time to work on chord progressions and rhythm patterns on my new looper. For funky rhythm patterns lessons like this give great inspiration:

Hi Tom, the funk lesson is a great choice.
So now we can get into the new goal (LINK Could you please remind me your current improvisation knowledge? Pentatonic Scales, Major and minor scales, Modes, Triads, Arpeggios, Caged System. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Tom,
Yes, you're right about the scales. With all that knowledge, you can start practicing improvisation. All those things should be related in the fretboard: Pentatonic scales, Caged System Chords, Triads, and then major scale. At this point I think that there are 3 exercises that you could do: 1. Practice Pentatonic Scale Sequences over One Chord backing track. 2. Learn licks in the style that you like.} 3. Experiment with diatonic triads over a one chord track. How? Let's say that you are playing over C major chord. You can play triads from C major tonality: C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim Experiment and see which ones sounds better for you over C chord. I recommend playing the triads melodically, not as chords. Finally combine the 3 things below. Please let me know if this is clear. -------------------- My lessons

Yes - its clear what I have to do. At least it seems so at the moment About the one chord backing track: were you thinking about using a track from GMC (I could cut out a single chord period and loop that in Cubase) or should I simply use my looper. I would start with Cmaj chord as One Chord backing track. Is my understanding correctly, if I would use an Amin chord as One Chord backing track I could still play the same triads from C major tonality: C - Dm - Em - F - G - Am - Bdim over it? Would it make sense exploring both : over Cmaj and Amin? Use your looper! And yes, C maj and A min tonalities include the same triads. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab,
Some delay with new videos due to tendinitis in my left hand. It really hurts to use the little finger so I had to reduce my practice time from 2.5h to 1-1,5h and use each block very wise and focused. I still have to do cooling and my finger joint is swollen. Hope it will get better soon. I will record a lesson video for each of the 4 lessons within the next four days to update you. Here comes #1 and I was trying to implement your advise about loose hand and Kris' about feeling the rhythm from last REC take. https://youtu.be/M4sFpFTdoE4 Original lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Funky-Minor-Chords/ Depending on your feedback I will share this at REC too. Next video will follow tomorrow. About my long term goal - you know what I mean...I was working according your plan. 1. Practice Pentatonic Scale Sequences over One Chord backing track. ***That is not so easy. I guess you want me to learn which notes of pentatonic go well with a chord (e.g. root, 3rd...) How do I get those patterns - from lessons or my "inspiration" ? Still need to work here. 2. Learn licks in the style that you like.} ***The easiest of the 3 tasks. I started to record a lick library in Cubase with some notes about tonality etc. That will help later to re-learn them again. Will continue with that. 3. Experiment with diatonic triads over a one chord track. ***So you want me to get a feel how the I ii iii IV V vi vii sound over the I chord. Is that what I should aim for? At least I really know triads now I currently would go on with all 3 tasks. OK? This post has been edited by Tom51: Jul 17 2017, 03:53 PM |

Hi Tom, good stuff!
The lesson sounds good but there is still work to do in order to adjust the groove. I think that your right hand is not relaxed enough while keeping the up and down movement. I would dedicate some time to just move the hand up and down with the groove and trying to make it the more relaxed possible. Then, get back to the lesson. Use your body to follow the groove: move your head, tap with your foot, close your eyes, feel the groove. About your questions: How do I get those patterns - from lessons or my "inspiration" ? Do you refer to the chord tones or the sequences? So you want me to get a feel how the I ii iii IV V vi vii sound over the I chord. Is that what I should aim for? At least I really know triads now Exactly! Some will sound better than others. Experiment and identify them. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Tom, good stuff! The lesson sounds good but there is still work to do in order to adjust the groove. Do you mean my rhythm playing is not tight with the beat - do I understand that right? So I will work as you suggested. How do I get those patterns - from lessons or my "inspiration" ? [/i] Do you refer to the chord tones or the sequences? I was referring to pentatonic sequence patterns like this lesson https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...onic-sequences/ So to get some good sounding patterns that can be applied for improvisation. So you have some nice little Amin patterns in your Frusciante lessons that I could use at different pentatonic positions. Do you get what I mean? And as promised the next rhythm lesson. https://youtu.be/bR0PcNaP9hk https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Triads_Comping/ This post has been edited by Tom51: Jul 18 2017, 06:51 PM |

Do you mean my rhythm playing is not tight with the beat - do I understand that right? So I will work as you suggested. Yes, your timing is irregular yet. That will improve with more practice, and with hands relaxation, as well as the other tips or ideas that I've shared. Exactly! It's a good idea to have an archive with many of these sequences and practice them diary. You can learn them from sequences lesson but also from musical lessons and solos from your favorite songs. You can identify sequences in licks as you did in my Frusciante lesson. The more sequences you practice, the more vocabulary you'll have for your improvisation. And as promised the next rhythm lesson. https://youtu.be/bR0PcNaP9hk https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Triads_Comping/ Great job with this one!!! I can hear improvements regarding your timing, and the chord changes are smooth. Sorry that I repeat this all the time, but just more relaxation and groove and you'll get a flawless take. However, this one sounds better than yesterday's lesson. Well done!! -------------------- My lessons

Hi Tom, nice to see this one again.
As this is a very musical solo, great for practicing vibrato, bending, and everything related to feeling, I think that it's a good move to keep it in your diary practice. You can play it at least twice on every session. The solo has some clear issues here and there, but your timing and vibrato are really good! Remember to put some focus on the posture of your right hand as we've already talked. Keep on the good job mate. -------------------- My lessons

Hi Gab - and here is the last video for this week- the Santana2 lesson.
I currently tend to hide a little behind the lessons as the creative things are more demanding . So I will start working on sequences and licks right now again. Cheers Tom https://youtu.be/VWkhTU0099I https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Santana-Europa-Part-2/ |

Hi Tom! Well done!
It's really good for me to be able to monitor your diary practice. In the case of this lesson, I would focus more on dynamics since everything sounds a bit "soft" and without enough dynamics. It's also a good idea to identify the faster parts, mostly in lower strings and practice them as technique exercises. I've noted this alternate picking issues in previous lessons that also included fast runs, so why don't you group this licks as exercises for diary practice? About the creativity part, it's very important! Do it diary and enjoy it. -------------------- My lessons
