Thanks Gab,

Ok in the blues lesson I said I was struggling to get the E7b10 chord. It was easier once I got the part before it fingered correctly as the fingering stays the same you just add notes. Anyway, once I'd cracked that I went back to GP5 and got the next bit down, basically the same chord but without the open high E just a tricky little shuffle back down the fretboard to play the D and D# whilst holding the chord shape and then back to the chord. The TAB is below and this is the same in GP5.

  H Q Q Q H Q Q Q
--0-----------------------|--------------------------|
--8--------x--------------|--8--------x--------------|
--7--------x--------------|--7--------x--------------|
--6--------x--------------|--6--------x--------------|
--7--------x----5----6----|--7--------x--------------|
--------------------------|----------------3----3----|

"Great" I thought, "I've finally got this down roughly, now onto the solo" so I go back to the video and find out he doesn't play that second chord, he plays an E5, I tell you, my Strat nearly went through the window laugh.gif

I'm just letting you know because now I have to unlearn that, (this neuroplasticity is a pain in the butt biggrin.gif ) I know it should be easy to swap but I've just got it "right" and found out it's wrong wacko.gif laugh.gif

Not a problem, it's all good practise, it's just set me back a little bit. I'm really struggling with chord/rhythm as it is and both my current lessons have it smile.gif so it was a little bit infuriating but these things happen.

Cheers my friend and thank you for your patience smile.gif

Hey Phil! I think that this story has a very positive side and it's that you've also practiced a variation of the original lesson. Remember that this lessons are excuses to practice and learn new things so I wouldn't feel frustrated or that I wasted time. Again! This is part of the journey, so enjoy it! smile.gif

By the way thanks for letting me know about the lesson's issue, we will fix it.

Thanks Gab,

I was only frustrated initially wink.gif I know it's all good experience it's just that I feel it put me back a little on this lesson and I didn't want you thinking I'm not trying smile.gif

The GP5 file for the blues lesson has the same chord too

Cheers

Thanks Gab,
You've probably noticed that the final cod in the rhythm is the same in both files too.
Cheers buddy smile.gif

It all looks good now mate, thank you so much. smile.gif

Had my Presonus TubePre V2 today. Enjoying experimenting with recording but missing too much practise. All good knowledge though and as they say, "A change is as good as a rest".

Cheers Gab.

Thanks Gab,
At the moment it is more to get the signal strength to Reaper but you can hear the samples without preampHERE and with the preamp HERE.

Cheers.

Thanks Gab,

Sorry I took a bit of a journey detour lately but once I get my head into something I have to get the majority of it sorted at the expense of everything else rolleyes.gif . I have now, as you can see, got to a point where I can use my mic for recording stuff for workshops and hopefully develop my recording/mixing skills alongside my playing skills. I know you're very busy but as we go along, any tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated. smile.gif

I picked up my guitar tonight and a little idea came into my head huh.gif . I've recorded and saved it for future reference but I have put it here for you to hear for some development advice. It's practically a clean Strat on neck humbucker but I think with some dirt added it could suit different types of music. I didn't have a metronome running and was just winging it.

Hi Phil! Great to know that you are moving forward! smile.gif

I've checked the sample and I like the idea. It's a cool motif that could be used as the beginning (intro) or maybe as the main melody of an instrumental tune that includes some other parts and jam sections. It's a great idea to have a folder with cool ideas that then you'll take to improve and continue.

Your tone sounds good on this one but I hear here that there are some bass frequencies that are a bit loud. I notice some kind of saturation in the low range (around 100hz/150hz) that can be cut with an EQ but I think that it would be better if you try to avoid it with your Amp Eq and mic position techniques. If you don't hear this problem in your amp when hearing directly, you should move your mic, maybe more to the center of the speaker to get a clearer sound without those bass frequencies. If the problem can be heard directly from your amp, lower some bass and see what happens.

This video has some useful information about mic positions.

Thanks Gab,

Interesting video, cheers. I'm wondering if the bass issue is something I was reading about, proximity effect?
Now I've got the basics I'm concentrating on my lessons again.
I've put a work in progress in the creativity workshop recorded direct from GT-001, I'll be using my mic for other things but for now I want to get back to playing daily and when I use atmospheric effects it quicker to just go direct.
I'll be using the mic for my blues lesson and my Sex Pistols lesson.
I won't be able to practice tomorrow night (Tuesday) as I have got our works Christmas party.
Cheers Gab

You can also experiment with proximity to get a different EQ but I think that this problem is more related to the position of your mic related to the speaker.

Hello Gab,

Update:

Still trying hard but been very busy with work due to the upcoming shut down so working late.
Rhythm playing is a HUGE challenge for me with chords (even three string) but I'm going to nail it! It will take a while but I AM GOING TO DO IT and then hopefully it should start happening more easily.
I've just experimented with the mic pointing centre of cone but angled 30 degrees from perpendicular while doing the Sex Pistols lesson, sounds nice and bright and clear but I think the Hotbird helps with that too wink.gif.

Speak soon

Cheers

Thanks Gab,

Yes I'm working hard on everything but it is too much. I have to get back to mainly doing my lessons, I have got carried away with recording trials but I have been really enjoying it.

Hi Phil, I've checked some of the sample using that black pedal and I can say that it sounds really good! Are you using it by line or connected to your amp?

What is this pedal exactly? a distortion? a preamp?

Thanks Gab,
I'm using into amp with SM57. It's the pedal developed by Ace (Skunk Anansie)
All info HERE including demos by the man himself wink.gif it's very versatile, someone like you would get so much out of it wink.gif
Cheers Gab smile.gif
