Hi Phil! Much better! The wrong ones are 3, 4 and 6.
Harmonically means two or more notes played together... the opposite of melodically, that means one note after the other. It's not related to harmonic minor scale. -------------------- My lessons

Another go at the incorrect ones. 1: 6th D Bb 2: 3rd D F 3: 8th D D 4: 3rd D F 5: 7th D C 6: 8th D D xxxxxx Just can't find this one  . Hello Gab,
I am working on the Darius solo and MUST get back into the Hives rhythm. I can't believe I have been back a week  . Work has been hectic trying to catch up so I have worked late a few nights so not been able to practice as much as I would have liked. I won't post anything until I have got all of the notes of the solo into my fingers, then, if it's ok with you we can start refining it for the REC zone. I think I have been posting too often in the past and creating videos takes too much of my time so I think it's best to wait until I have the whole of something in my memory first. I'm working on bars 29 - 30 but I've had to swap guitars. The Strat was a little uncomfortable getting to the 17th fret on the A string so I've switched to my Ibanez RG1570. It's a bit weird going from 21 frets to 24, it kind of confuses your visual reference points for a while. When I said I won't post anything until I have a piece fully under my fingers I meant videos, I'll still have questions to ask and things like that. I didn't realise I could come into the chat with questions about my lessons, I always thought I would be disrupting your chat lesson so I never have asked questions in there. Thanks Gab, I thought you concentrated one a specific subject in the chats. I'll get a web cam soon but until then I will have to try and type my question
Answers to the ear training. 1: C E G D 2: C A B C 3: C D F A 4: C G C E 5: C B A F 6: C D G E 7: C E A G 8: C A D E 9: C F E D 10: C A F D This took me 10 minutes, I don't actually recognise the intervals from memory but I was getting close fairly quick. How do you think is the best way to practise with these multiple note pieces? Should we listen to the whole phrase and then try to play it from memory then see how close we are? and if incorrect, listen again, then play until it sounds right to us and then re-check with the piece? Hi Phil, the results are perfect! The best for training your ear is to try to recognize them without using your guitar. Listening each one many times, and singing each note to identify the different note distances, and so note names.
I assume that you used your guitar to find the notes, don't you? If you did it, it's ok, it is also valid, but if you want to go beyond, using only your ear is a great training. -------------------- My lessons

I've got some improvement on the 19th fret bent vibrato so we are still moving forward I played bar 29 over and over for 45 minutes I managed to get up to 70% speed but it is very tricky. Also I think I have damaged something in my forearm by doing this for so long as I am getting stabbing pains and tingling along my forearm in line with my little finger  . Hopefully it will be better tomorrow, if not I am resting it at the weekend as we are having a micro holiday Saturday to Sunday overnight stay so it should be better for Sunday evening. Hi mate, how is your arm now? That's not a very wide arpeggio so it's weird that you hurt your arm while practicing. This can be related to the fact that you haven't been practicing relaxed, have you? Also, do you remember Petrucci's massages and stretches? It's a good moment to take them back.
Please stop practicing if it still hurts, and keep me updated on how you feel. About the band, I haven't heard of them, thanks for sharing! I'll check their music. -------------------- My lessons

My arm is ok thanks but too painful to risk playing. I know it's not a wide arpeggio but I was so focused on nailing bar 29 I didn't realise how tense I had become over 45 minutes. I set the loop on bar 29 in GP6 and just went into a trance . My teeth were clenched so tight that my jaw muscles were starting to cramp which is what made me stop. It was the little finger on the 17th fret on the A string that has caused the pain. I tried to play it tonight and it was that note that sent pain through my arm. On top of that I did 10 hours manual factory work today. It wasn't hurting while I was playing but when I stopped and relaxed it started to throb. I was totally zoned out, in a trance trying to nail that bar 29 I didn't notice what was happening to me. I think the wrist angle has a part to play too, it's not a natural position to hold for that long. Not for me at my current level anyway.I think the pain is just muscular and not tendon so it will be fine very soon I'm still pleased that I got the notes into my finger memory, for bars left now then get up to speed then polish for REC. http://www.theruts.co.uk/?page_id=124 In bar 29 of the Darius solo, I am very confused. There are twelve notes (4 triplets) and each one has an 'E' over it meaning it is an eighth note. How does this work out? Is it an error in the TAB?
