Thanks Gab,

Looking forward to it. I am in the south of France from 23rd July to 6th August so this will probably be my last assignment until I return. Just enough time to fit it in smile.gif

Cheers

ASSIGNMENT #3:

Goals:

- Expanding your A minor phrasing
- Learning another section from Rocksteady (2:25 to 2:43)

TASK 1:

- Learn the first 30 seconds from this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Simple-Aminor-Soloing/
- Improvise over the backing track of this lesson trying to create your own variations.

TASK 2:

- Learn the licks starting at 2:25 to 2:43 from Rock Steady Song.

Exam and deadline:

By July 23th you'll have to share 3 videos:

- A video playing the first 30 seconds from the lesson (3 coins)
- A second video improvising over the lesson's backing using A pentatonic minor (3 coins)
- A video playing the licks learnt from Rock Steady Song. (4 coins)

Each of this videos will be evaluated (check the coins value below). You need to get at least 7 coins to pass. If you pass, we can continue, if you don't you will have a second "call" that would be the last one.

Tonight on the way home, I was listening to Rock Steady and noticed that the rhythm guitar is different to what I play. When the singer is singing, there is one chord missing I think.

If you get chance, please have a listen.

Cheers

In the verse mate smile.gif

Update:
I only have 8 days for this assignment as I am leaving for the airport on 22nd July. It is likely to be a fail but I will try my hardest, I will be extremely pushed at work to get everything out to the screaming customers before our factory shuts down for its annual holiday so I will probably be working late some nights.

As I said I will try my hardest. It is already hard trying to learn two solos at once, my fingers keep getting confused laugh.gif All part of the journey but I am expecting to have to continue this when I get back from the south of France.

My wife and I are a little apprehensive as we are flying into Nice airport, you have probably heard about the attack in Nice this week. We are going to a town called Menton about one hour away. It is thought that this attacker wasn't associated with ISIS; he ate pork, never went to a mosque, drank and took drugs, ISIS are claiming it was their attack but I think they are just saying that to claim another "victory". He was very depressed and a loner, sometimes these people do crazy crazy things for a moment of "glory". Terrible terrible attack. So sad for everyone, especially the children. sad.gif

UPDATE 2:
I know you don't want me to post takes etc and only expect the videos on the deadline but I feel it helps to keep me going if I post something. You don't need to give a lengthy analysis, it just keeps me focused smile.gif

Here is a quick jam to the backing track. The improvising is going better than the solos at the moment. Some tricky fingering for me on the solos so to de-stress a little I did a bit of jamming wink.gif

Cheers buddy.

Take care.

Hi Phil,

Yes, I know what happened at Nice. It's so sad that the world suffers a new terrorist attack. It must generate a very deep feeling to go there nowadays.

I understand what happens when the vacation days are coming. The last week before can be a nightmare. We usually have to finish a lot of work and prepare everything for the journey. So maybe I can be softer with the penalty... tongue.gif laugh.gif

Now seriously, we can extend your deadline to 10 days after you get back from your journey, what do you think?

Thanks for you understanding Gab smile.gif

Shall we say 10 days maximum but I will try to get done in 5.

Do you think the improvisation is going in the right direction?

Ok! Sounds like a plan. The improvisation is going on the right direction. Be careful with bending pitches, and try to give the phrasing more feeling by using elements like slides, more vibrato and dynamics.

Ello mate,

Just a quick one, I'm struggle with vibrato on whole tone bends, I'm struggling to hold the bend for very long and it feels like my fingers are trying to separate from my finger nails laugh.gif Both of these solos have whole tone bends with vibrato. As a little cheat this evening I was sliding a tone instead of bending on the Rock Steady solo just to get a feel for the rest of the first four bars I'm trying to get down. When I'm doing those bends it feels like someone is pushing a needle underneath my finger nail. I guess it's because I've never done so much bending for an hour or more.

I'm not trying to get out of it but I feel that when I get back after two weeks of not playing it will be hard. I will overcome it though wink.gif

Cheers buddy

Thanks Gab, firm but fair as they say over here wink.gif

I've managed to be getting my work done (5am start and 6:30 pm finish) and get a small amount (30 minutes) of practise in at the moment.

I am really really stuck with the lick inside the two red lines in the img below though. The full bend at the 5th fret followed by notes on the 8th fret same string is so hard. I am trying to bend with my first finger so that my pinkie is on the 8th fret ready. I could do it if I could bend pulling down but then the string comes off the fretboard and I don't have the finger strength for a whole tone bend with just my first finger. If I use more fingers to bend that note i can't get to the 8th fret quick enough.

Do you have any tips?

Cheers buddy

P.S Even though I am struggling, I am really really enjoy this challenge, struggling to get anywhere near the tone of Darius though.

Hi Phil, practicing that bend with your first finger is a good idea. You could also fix this by using other finger but you'll get more of this practice if you get used to bend with your index so I would dedicate some time to gain more strength. Ok?

OK thanks Gab,

It's just that GMC instructors are always saying to use more than one finger to bend laugh.gif I'll stick at it, I know all about muscular hypertrophy, it was a past passion wink.gif In fact, after my holiday, I'm going to work it on my acoustic, no point before, because any growth will diminish after only training it for two days.

Cheers buddy.
