Hi Phil! This is VERY promising! I prefer the first audio which sounds much more precise than the second one that is also ok but tend to sound a bit hurried. The first one is what I'd consider a take with great groove! Congrats friend.
It's a good move to take some time to slow down things and try to train your ear in order to detect when your playing is tight and when it's not. It's not an easy thing to be able to judge this while playing but it should be possible to do it when listening to what you've recorded at normal tempo. I think maybe the second one is a little rush because I was adding extra bars without fully practising? I've had a quick dabble in the Neo Soul, nothing special just some ideas to throw around. I'm really pleased you like the Neo Soul take. I listened to the backing twice then hit record and that's what came out. I'm definitely going to polish it. I think I'll keep the harmonic intro but get the timing tighter. I'll work on some variations of the other parts until I'm happy. Hi Phil, great stuff! I can hear that Jack White lesson is sounding really good. Your groove is excellent when playing the main riff, it feels really natural now!
Your work here, and your work at the collab (As well as that take at Todd's thread) show that you are doing a killer job at GMC! Your comments made my day. As you know it's a struggle to notice your own improvement so your comments were heart warming In the Jack White lesson, I've worked my way back up to the solo section leading into the double stops. I need to slow it right down again  Such a challenge but if it needs work, it needs work and there's no point moving to another lesson unless I get bored with it but the collab is keeping me fresh. I'm struggling to come up with ideas in the collab now. What I have found though is that different guitar tones make me play slightly different ways. Is this a good or bad thing? I am once again struggling with the diads. This is a HUGE hurdle for me for some reason. I WILL overcome it though. Can you hear anything in these recordings to explain why i can't play it at full speed? https://soundcloud.com/gmcphil-1/jack-white-diads-phil-and-gab-45bpm https://soundcloud.com/gmcphil-1/jack-white-diads-phil-and-gp5-45bpm I'm going to break it down and build it up one diad at a time, get the first two up to speed, then 2 & 3, 3 & 4 and spend ten minutes afterwards building them up, so 123, 1234, 12345, one diad at a time unless you can suggest anything else. I have a feeling that when the left hand changes position, because of the speed it almost becomes a slide and this slide affects my right hand. It seems a bit like patting your head while rubbing your stomach and trying to go faster. What do you think? Could it be an inherent hand sync issue at faster speeds?? Cheers Gab. Hi Phil, I think that this audio sounds perfect. I don't note anything that could make me figure out why you can't play this faster. I just believe that this lick is trickier than it sounds, and that it requires more practice to become natural to you. Again, smaller blocks are the way to go here.

I'm glad you said it was "perfect", that does give me hope, I have been in despair to be honest, I have played it at 90% pretty well but the elusive 100% (90bpm) is a struggle. I hope this is the year I finish the Jack White lesson  Below is a take at full speed. There are quite a few mistakes even on bits I was ok at, like the main riff, this is due to tension mostly and REC button syndrome. I've also found that when I get to full speed I really rush the diads, this is showing me I'm not ready for 90bpm yet, my mind is tying to get them out of the way quickly, like a panic. Anyway, I thought I'd post it as we know I can play it slowly so I tried a full speed take. I am building up to speed bit by bit but I went for a full take tonight just for the hell of it  Another problem I seem to have is the diads don't cut through the mix very well. Hi Phil! I know that this is taking a lot of work, but trust me, I can hear on this new take that your playing is getting really good man. This is not an easy lesson, and I think that you are close to master it. You need to be patient, and to avoid frustration combine this with other works, (as you are doing) as the collab or Todd's bootcamp.
The take has obvious thing to fix that you already know. You are not comfortable at this tempo, but I think that you'll be soon. You just need to continue practicing. About the diad issue, I don't note it. Is it already fixed in this take? -------------------- My lessons

I think the diad issue is better now. I just noticed that other pieces have suffered a little bit. I need to relax more when playing the whole piece. For an analogy, it feels like doing one of THESE. Below is another full speed take. I am practising at slow speeds but I don't think it's worth sending you a recording of them as they are not bad really. I think the full speed takes are getting better each time. There are some mistakes in this, I missed some notes and got a note wrong on the final single note run but I managed to keep it going, something I could never do a few months ago, I used to have to start again. None of the mistakes are consistent, ie; I make different mistakes each time. https://soundcloud.com/gmcphil-1/jack-white-rough-90bpm-take-2 I'll work hard mate. I am in London from Thursday until Sunday for my wife's 50th birthday so no practice but I will give it my full attention until then and afterwards. Further to the post above, here is another take at full speed. My last one until I get back from London. What I think needs attention: Unwanted string noise. Open chords need to be more accurate. General polishing. The 9th fret bend section before the diads sounds rushed to me. Tone needs improvement. I struggle with this with my setup at the moment. I might try a different (brighter) guitar. I'll always need you mate  I am pleased that I'm developing a skill of hearing my flaws, the obvious ones, anyone can hear but as I progress I notice more detailed flaws.Regarding this piece. Every time I play it, I have different mistakes. I'm thinking, this is a good thing because, apart from the 9th fret bending section, none of the errors are consistent. Am i right in thinking this is a good thing because I have played each part correctly and it's a matter of stringing it all together? Or is it a bad thing due to its inconsistency?
