Nice one Gab,
Is that the guitar your girlfriend bought you for Christmas last year? The one in the video? I'll be working on the rest of the lesson this weekend and also trying to work out some rhythm for the Sabbath Collab. Enjoy your family time and your time with your girlfriend. Thank you Phil! Yes, that's the guitar! She is using it a lot with her band because the sound is perfect for it.
I've also used it to record our new album. -------------------- My lessons

Hello Gab,
Okay, yesterday I sorted out my "studio" area, it took longer than I thought so I didn't get any practise in https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=58712 Today I made a start on the solo section of Ben's lesson, after playing my alternate picking lesson 5 times increasing speed and then back to 50% to finish it perfectly. The the Kotzen lick until my hand got tired. After that, i found this brilliant backing track and I jammed over it for 20 minutes solid, I got lost in the moment, I even came up with some pretty good licks but I can't remember them now Man I was in a trance with it. I stayed in the extended minor pentatonic based around shape 1 above and below the 12th fret (root on E). It's a great backing track I think and I found it very good for getting into my own self while playing along. Have a listen I bet you won't be able to resist having a jam with it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S69myavuIdg -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. I'll try this backing too, thanks for sharing it. I recommend you to start recording all your jams. At first you'll feel intimidated, but then it will become normal, and you'll be able to get back to those licks that you've liked. I can feel that this is the way to build your own style. What do you think? -------------------- My lessons

Thanks Gab,
It was the most enjoyment I've had on guitar in years, it was like a meditation. I did it again tonight and found some more lovely licks. I don't know about recording the jams, I'm not intimidated by making mistakes any more, that's how you find out what doesn't work but, I just don't think I'll get the time to listen back to them. Working hard on the Collen lesson, it's feels unfamiliar to me in the solo section but I think I might crack this one. I must get onto the Sabbath collab tomorrow. Yeah, I know that it's tricky to find the time to listen to the whole thing back. But maybe you can remember that magic moment where you realize that a great lick just came so you'll try to find it. You can add marks or anything. Think a creative way to be able to identify a strong moment in your jam.

Thanks Gab,
I'm having trouble with the Collen lesson in the bars where the 17th fret is played after the 12th. No where near speed yet but time will be my friend. I've come up with a way to identify my "good" licks for improvising. I downloaded/converted the YT video to MP3, put it into Reaper and connected my SM57 to one of the inputs on my Scarlett using (Phantom power). I played with my headphones on and when I thought I'd just played a good lick I just say "boom" or something into the mic to create a spike in the sound wave in Reaper. Then all I have to do, is go to the spike on the mic channel and listen to the seconds before it. It works well. Cheers Gab. -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Thanks Gab, I'll try to get some to you when I get time. I had a go tonight and forgot to click "record"
Tonight I played the whole Phil Collen lesson at 100% speed. It's scruffy but it's at full speed so it's time to polish it. The main thing I now have a problem with is vibrato on a bent note. I am choking the string when I try to do it and so the note just stops. Do you have any tips for that? Thanks Phil -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Hi Phil! A video would really help me to see what's the real problem. There is not a big difference in the technique involved when adding vibrato to bends. The motion should start from your wrist as always. Do you remember that Joe Satriani's tips video that I've shared with vibrato exercises? He also shows vibrato when bending. Check it out again.

Thanks Gab,
I know the bends aren't always correct pitch (At least I know that now whereas a while back I wouldn't have know ) but here is a video. In this video there are shots of me doing none bend vibrato so that you can see how I normally do it. Thank you for your help mate. Sorry Gab, it must have been something to do with where I captured the link from within my library so it couldn't take you there but it took you to your library instead. I've fixed it now

Hi Phil, thanks for the video.
I don't see that the string is chocked when doing vibrato + bending. The note stops then you quit the bend so it seems to be ok. By now, you hand is not comfortable with the string required to keep the bending and add the vibrato, but I think that the motion is ok. You could focus even more on the wrist movement, (remember Satriani's vid), but it's not ad at all. The best thing that you can do is to add some bending and vibrato practice into your diary sessions. Dedicating some blocks of 6 minutes during the day will make a big difference. I even think that your normal vibrato requires some work, so it would be: - Vibrato - Bending - Bending + Vibrato Let me know if you need a link with more exercises for this. -------------------- My lessons

Thanks Gab,
I'll look for a lesson and try to find that Satriani video again. For some reason when I recorded that video, the choking had stopped I don't know what I did to stop it but it just stopped. Let's hope it doesn't come back. Cheers. Phil -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. It's the same type of magic that appears when you take something to repair and when the technician tries it, it works fine. Have you ever experience it?

All the time Gab, all the time. Owning a factory full of 40 CNC machines gives me a lot of experience of that and the service engineers that we call out charge £60-£90 per hour PLUS mileage charge for travelling
I'm going to spend a few minutes each session with bending, I pick a note, look at my tuner, move down the neck and, with my eyes closed try to bend to pitch, when I think I have it I check the tuner to see if I am correct. Then vibrato practise, the bent string vibrato. Thanks Phil -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight.
