Excellent! Yes, you can play triplets and understand what they are. However, I think that this is a very good exercise for you. You are playing triplets but they don't sound very tight... do you notice it? what about adding a few minutes of this type of practice?

Hi Phil! I think that Cael's explanation clarified this question. Please remember that music notation is a language based on symbols and as every language it's arbitrary.
"Music notation or musical notation is any system used to visually represent aurally perceived music played with instruments or sung by the human voice through the use of written, printed, or otherwise-produced symbols, including notation for durations of absence of sound such as rests." Nice!! Yeah, I also think that Hurt is a better reference. That's the first vibe that came to my mind when I read the first part you've shared.

Hello Gab,
I can't read that poem, I haven't got access  Regarding the triplet lessons, should the picking on the lesson with the middle note of each triplet be played like example one or two? (U=upstroke and d= downstroke). I'm thinking it should be likeexample one, keeping the hand going the same as if the middle one is played, it's just that example 2 feels more natural. I am thinking that example 2 could cause issues when you start mixing it up a little bit.

Yes, option 1 is the one that you should use. The fact that we need to use strict alternate picking makes us have to sometimes accentuate with a downstroke and other times with a downstroke. Yeah I understand the accentuating, it was more about the picking. I didn't know if it was okay to alternate pick the notes that are actually picked which felt more natural to me (ex 2) or if I had to keep the lock moving as though picking all of the notes but missing the strings on the notes marked "L". (ex 2). Regarding my rehab, it's 99% cured now as far as being able to actually do all movements, I've just got an unusual lack of stamina, not in my forearm or fingers but, in moving my arm towards the headstock. It's just a matter of time, my physio thinks that there have been a lot of muscle fibres not working due to not receiving signals from the nerves that were impinged, this has caused them to atrophy so now they are very weak. Ah! I though that you were talking about standard triplets (as the ones played on first parts of this lesson).
The fourth part includes a tied note which makes things different to what I've said before. This is the most recommended picking pattern: D D U U D D U U Sorry that I didn't notice these weren't conventional triplets. No worries buddy,
I thought that the way you have put it, like my example 1 is the "correct" way to play it, ie: You still play each note as though the missed notes had been picked, it's just that playing them with alternate strokes as in my example 2, felt more natural to me, although I can see it giving issue when playing faster as it's trickier to keep the rhythm going. Yes, considering the "tied note", both options that you provided are ok but the example one is the "correct" one.

Hello Gab,
Okay, as I said in a PM, my injury had a bit of a relapse but it's useable again now. The EVH collab took a lot of my practise time and then the relapse last week made it hard but here are a couple of videos. I think with this kind of exercise it's easier to go fast because you can set up a rhythm easier in your hand so I'm going to work more on the slow bpm as Bumblefoot stresses HERE. https://youtu.be/PUahvfL7mMs https://youtu.be/7UkI3beBsGg Any advice appreciated, I think it's just a matter of systematically plugging away at it. Hi Phil! Yes, I notice that you are going tighter at 80 than 40. This is normal, as you said (and Bumblefoot), it can be tricky to play very slow over metronome. However, it helps you to train your inner rhythm so it's very positive to continue doing it.
The second video sound very good! I only think that there is some accentuation lacking there. There are not motion things to improve, you just need to continue practicing this a few minutes every day. -------------------- My lessons
