Ngd: Hamer Californian Options

I stumbled across an old Hamer Slammer Californian at $240 the other day, and finally decided to buy it today. Managed to get it at $150, but it was a bit wrecked and in dire need of some care. I managed to get it somewhat back in shape, and I must say that I'm pleasently surprised. After having played my 7 and 8 string a lot recently, I've missed the feel of a 6 string, and this guitar does not disappoint, but then again, it hardly could at the price.





With all things said, it could probably use a new floyd rose system and a couple of new pick ups. Something for the future!

Nice! I have an early version of the Californian Slammer series (bought from Todd Simpson a couple of years ago). Sounds like you got a very good deal. You could maybe use the money you saved to replace the pickups? The stock bridge that came with mine was actually decent (duncan design distortion). The single coil stock pickup was garbage though. I ended up replacing both pickups and I love the guitar. The floating bridge that you mentioned isn't the best or most stable but it gets the job done. Of course a real floyd would be a major upgrade.

BINGO!! Same guitar As an aside, I"m also selling my "PHANTOM" guitar which is a guitar designed by Phantom from the 80s band "PHANTOM ROCKER AND SLICK" whose entire company was bought out by none other than HAMER!!!!

No suprise that it feels pretty much just like the Hamer Californian.





Congrats on your new axe!!! DEGROOT is spot on!! The bridge pickup is one of those "designed by duncan" which really means "not really a duncan" So putting something a bit more aggressive would really make it shine.

Some thoughts!!

DUNCAN CRAZY 8 (Their first alnico 8 magnet pickup and would work well with the woods)

HOMEWRECKER DURDEN (MIx of alnico 5 and 8, killer pups)

BAREKNUCKLE JUGGERNAUT (Also mixed alnico with ceramic!)

Or really any pup that fits your fancy!

That might be killer!! Just make sure you get a good luthier Very fast neck with a scallop could be very spiff!

Looks amazing! Unless you think about selling this one at some point in the future and getting [at least some] of the money back trying to scallop is a cool idea.

Follow a tutorial and only scallop half the depth you are thinking about. Work sloooowly and let it take a lot of time, count with at least 2-3 days of work to get it good the first time.

I must say I have been thinking about getting a metal axe with a floyd rose for a long time, I am itching for it since there is some stuff I just can't do with my current guitars... and I used to be an RG player a long time ago.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing it myself. I did a scallop on an old Hohner guitar just to try it out like 6 years back if not more. There's a thread on it somewhere here on the boards. It ended up being quite a deep scallop, so I'd have to be more careful with this one.

Probably won't be anything I'll do soon though, maybe later this year!
