Hello GMC

How to adjust guitar rig to play legato ?
I'm not experienced in this technique, I know I lack of strength and precision.
But if I could set a good preset, work would probably nicer.
Tomorrow I 'll upload a video, you can see and hear and maybe help me to improve this.

Todd here smile.gif For legato a bit of extra gain will help. This is a link to my GUITAR RIG PRESET VAULT. They will work in version 4 and 5. Give a few of them a try smile.gif

If you are trying to match the sound Ben has in this lesson for example: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/

....you could do it by using Marshal amp simulation and turning up gain a bit (not all the way up). To goal is to get a bit of drive (distortion) going on which will help you sustain notes longer. This will also help you hear everything well (more gain/drive makes noises louder and also mistakes), so that you can work on your technique and adjust it per need.

Please start really slow with this as it can be a demanding technique (physically) on your fretting hand.

Please keep us updated smile.gif

Thank you Todd,

I Watched the database, I listen to some great preset.

Thank you Bogdan,

I will try with the settings you explained .

I'll try to upload a video today, you tell me if I'm on the right way.
This is really an unpleasant job for me , I'm serious but I did not much fun but I have muscle pain.

Yes I work slowly with metronome...

Hey MisterM - I'd like to say that if you are finding this exercise boring and you feel pain, you should not do it.
This kind of exercise is good for strengthening your fretting hand but please practice it in between other, musical stuff. This will help you stay motivated and have fun with guitar while you throw in a "technique workout" here and there. Also, muscle pain is serious stuff, as soon as you feel it that means you are done for the day with the exercise. Similar to weights lifting, our muscles can take only so much at the time. Please be careful with this.

Hi MisterM. You've already received excellent feedback by Todd and Bogdan. I'd like to add that being able to master vibrato is not related to tone, it's totally related to your left hand and how you tap and pull off when it's required in order to get the right sound of each note. Ben's Land of legato is my favorite to start polishing this technique so it would be good to see you playing some parts of it to give you more specific feedback and suggestions... deal?

Hi Manu, I just seen your video and in my opinion it's not a matter of tone or the amount of gain.
I think you have to slow down again and more important take a closer look to your technique especially for the pull off.
Your mouvement isn't totaly right, you don't really pull and release the string to make it ring. To achieve the right movement, imagine when playing the high e string trying to pull the string outside the fretboard.
Hope you see the picture... wink.gif

Hi MisterM, Stephane noted on your video exactly what I was suspecting. The problem is on your technique, and it's mostly related to the fact that you are not using the pull of movement right. When you quit one finger to make the following note sound in a "pull of" lick, you need to attach a bit the string to emulate what a pick would to, in order to make the following note sound. If you do it, you won't need a lot of sustain or distortion to make your legato sound.

Please check the original lesson slow video to see how Ben applies it, and let me know if you need help to apply it. wink.gif
