Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Hendrix Meets Sayce by Denes Nagy

I had an afternoon to record, so decided to get down two lessons I've been working on. This one I really struggled with until I realized Denes was using his thumb over the top on the low E (duh like Hendrix). After that it just took a short bit to get comfortable with the new technique. Cool trick and fun to play!

Hi again mate!

I also think that you are doing a great job with this lesson. Your playing is consistent on this one as it happens with the Stoner Lesson. I think that there are two things that could be improved on this take:

- Vibrato: Working on a wider and more consistent vibrato (for example the one at 00:32)

- Tone: I feel that a tone with more presence and definition could make this one sound better.

Other than that you're on the right track. Keep on the good job!

Very nice.

The timing and groove is just right.

The vibrato needs to be super wide for Hendrix.. not easy to do on a Strat, especially if it's got a convex neck, but it's worth the effort !

The tone is too muffled for this kind of thing, though. Your guitar has humbuckers so it's not going to get the same type of clanging, woody sound that single coil Strat produces but it should still be able to get closer. You might want to look at a different preset on your gear for this smile.gif

Very nice take! Aside from mentioned vibrato issue I would liek to focus on the tone choice. Frequency spectrum is pleasant for ears but it's too blurry/muddy/big muff-like for the Hendrix purpose. I think it's not just a matter of how You EQ it. There's a very specific group of overdrives like Big Muff for example. Those overdrive were meant to sound liek a broken radio or so. It's exactly a type of tone You get here in your take. It's not a best match because it's limited in case of presence and attack while Hendrix had a lot of presence and a clear, sharp attack in his tone. I suggest to search more for a different distortion type then messing with eq on this one (from the video)

In Hendrix type of playing we need that classic strat bite from the neck pickup. I hope you understand what I mean smile.gif anyway in case of playing it's a really descent one! smile.gif
