Hi Socky, I like it!

If I'm enjoying the midi version, I'll surely love the real guitars one. I don't thing that any part becomes repetitive. It's very promising.

Finally done with all my exams and university tomorrow. Since it's been a while since my last video, I think I'm gonna re-do all my bass, drum and guitar sounds just to freshen things up a bit. Also try and learn some new video editing tricks and maybe After Effects.

Maybe I'll start making a video a week/every two weeks since I have so much free time; problem is coming up with new ideas and tracks to do.

Right now I've got Requiem of a Dream next and the Final Fantasy battle theme from before that I need to finish up. After that, maybe more classic movie themes like Back To The Future, Ghostbusters etc.

Lemme know if you have any other song ideas!

Hi Socky! That sounds great! smile.gif

I always enjoy modern pop songs arranged for lead guitar, something in the style of Polyphia or what Asato usually does. Also I think that it can be good to go for the viral possibility.

Should be able to finish it by this weekend. Had to change some stuff around, some parts were too busy, some parts just sounded better in MIDI vs. a real recorded guitar.

Couldn't really find a good clean tone that fit upfront in the intro so I made it more ambient with some panning to tease the main melody.

Biggest challenge will be balancing high end of the distorted rhythm and lead guitars; tried making my lead a bit darker than usual.

Lemme know if there's anything that needs changing!

Man, this is amazing! I love the arrangement. It pure magic!

I think that the mix needs some more work. The main thing I feel needs polishing is the panning, which seems too wide for me and confuses my listening. I also think that there is some kind of rhythm guitar edition remaining to make everything sound tighter. But I'm not sure if this feeling is just because of the panning thing...

Other than that, this is killer.

Hmm I'm using the same mastering chain as all my other tracks and some mid/side eq on my rhythm guitars but I do that anyway without an issue.

Gonna try and find what's causing it. Does it sound weird when it's just bass/drums and rhythm guitar?

Hi mate, this sounds killer in my headphones. I have a similar feeling of extreme panning but it's not disturbing on my headphones now. I like it. I'm not at my studio to check with monitors.

I don't think that it's related to mastering, this seems to be more related to panning in mix. But again, it isn't an issue on this new audio.

Not sure if I managed to fix the stereo image issue but I released it anyway, didn't want to spend too long on a single project.

Finally got my new guitar, plays great, sounds great and should hopefully get a video out using it by next week.

Started working on some more tracks from the DOOM soundtrack; this is from BFG Division. I couldn't tune my guitar low enough to match the original so I'm just playing it at a higher pitch. Not recorded any guitars yet other than some glitchy stuff between 0:13 and 0:37. Still figuring out the arrangement I want; here's both tracks for you to compare.

Hi mate!! Congrats on your new guitar!! It's so beautiful!! I love the finish and shape. It's a piece of art. If I'm happy by looking at the pictures, I can't imagine how you must feel. You really deserve it mate. smile.gif

I think that "Requiem" video is great! I like that tune a lot, it makes me get back to the movie's feel (dark) and your arrangement is perfect. The mix sounds good at my monitors, I don't notice any relevant issue.

And about the song in progress... promising. biggrin.gif

Here's a short clip of the track with just guitar/bass/drums, there's another synth that goes on top of this but I haven't made it yet.

How do the guitars sound? I don't think I've ever actually done this djent style of guitar before.

And there are little fills in-between each riff (1:07 in the original video), I can't actually figure out how to make a similar sound; I think it's a synth and a guitar part. Do you have any ideas on how to re-create it?

Hi mate, your demo sounds killer. Your playing is very tight and the tone is perfect. I like it.

About that arrangement, I don't have my guitar here with me but it seems to be doable on guitar with some king of slide, and maybe adding some synth. It's doesn't sound like a synth, it sounds like guitar, but the video shows a synth move so it's confusing.

I asked someone else that did a cover of it and they automated a pitch bend to shift it up an octave, so I'm gonna try that.

Now I'm trying to figure out this riff (0:27 to 0:44):

Not the chugs but the guitars on the left side then the riff after that.

He just hits an open string and it bends a bit like half a step? Do you hear that bend too or am I way off? laugh.gif
I know if you have loose strings and you pick hard enough that can happen, not gonna work on my guitar but I'll just manually add that in if that's the case.

Yes, I can hear the half bend in that riff. I can't try it because I don't have a 7 strings guitar but there is a bend or at least fast trill happening there.

I gave up trying to make it exactly like the original, it's close enough. laugh.gif
Spent time giving all the glitchy guitar parts at 0:20 more of my own style than just copying the original.

Think I've finished recording everything, just need to polish the mix, some transitions and overall arrangement. Right now it's about 4 minutes 30 seconds, do you think that's too long for a video?

Wou! That's killer mate! I love it.

4 minutes? long? I don't know. The quality of this 20 seconds sample is outstanding.

https://soundcloud.com/socky42/miditone

Started working on another track, just a stupid song from a show. laugh.gif

But I'm struggling to find a guitar tone that fits, I've muted different parts from the tracks so you can hear the individual parts better and just drums and bass at the end.

I don't know what genre this is exactly but I've got an 80s drum machine/synth sound going on, what type of tone do you think would fit? Distorted? Clean?

Also the vocals are ripped from a youtube video and just eq'd out the other instruments the best I could but I think I have to keep a guitar in the middle to cover up some of the instrument bleed.

Hi Michael, sounds interesting.

While I was listening to this, I was thinking that using a clean sound can make this sound fresh and modern. Something in the style of Paramore's new album could work great.

A more obvious choice would be to go for some kind of Polyphia style tone.

What do you think?

I'd have to give the Paramore album a listen but yeah I was thinking a Polyphia coil-split type tone would work. Like a clean but breaking up/slightly overdriven tone so it cuts through but still has note definition.

That Polyphia clean would be also good! By "obvious" I meant to their more high gain sound.

I think I'm just gonna have to try everything anyway. laugh.gif
It's such a different sound to what I'm used to making that none of my normal tones will fit, which is good. Gets a bit boring making metal all the time.
