Hey mate! Great job! It's really cool to see how you polished your idea. This new take is much clearer and cleaner. There are some moments in which the riffs that you've recorded deserve some drums. I think that it would be good if you start experimenting creating your own backings for your songs. Have you thought about it?

Wou!! This is killer man! The composition and arrangements sound perfect for this picture! I also think that you've chosen the perfect VST instruments for a songs like this one. I assume that the article that you've shared includes good stuff about composing and arranging music in this style so be sure that I'll read it in a moment.

One thing that I think could improve this tune is to work a bit more the mix and mastering. I feel that your creativity is unlimited and that your composition is top level, however the audio is not at the same level. So, a good plan would be to start exploring and experimenting with EQs, compressors, fxs and mastering suites to polish the sound. What do you think?

yes, midi controllers help to record drums, bass and other instruments easily. M-audio has some good ones at reasonable prices. I use this one: http://www.m-audio.com/products/view/oxygen-25#.Va0E3_lViko

Sure! Some first thought that come to mind:

- The tone of your guitar is not totally powerful for this tune. What amp are you using? Have you doubled the track?

- Drums need treatment. Each part of the drums need a different EQ and compression. You could start tweaking Kick, Snare, OH and Room. You can start basically with a compressor and EQ on each of them. A good way to start is using the presets from your EQ and Comp plug ins and tweak them a bit until you heard something that you like. Drums also are lacking power and presence.

- Other instruments: I feel that your VSTi are lacking presence and definition so some EQ tweak can also help.

When mixing, we need to find a place in the frequency range for each instrument, so knowing where each instrument has its fundamental frequencies is important to know what frequencies you can enhance and which ones you should lower. There are many tables on internet.

Check out this: https://www.google.com.ar/search?q=equaliza...frecuency+range

Then you can experiment with reverb to create ambiance in your mix. This is totally another chapter but once Kristofer shared with me this great article: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul08/articles/reverb1.htm

There you can find many other articles about mixing. There is always something new to try and to learn, but experimenting and doing it frequently is the key.

Any questions? Feel free to share new versions here, I'll be happy to check and give more specific feedback.

Hi mate,

the vst instruments are a bit better but I feel that they are still lacking presence and definition.

Attached Image

Besides this, the main problem are guitars and drums. Check this video:
