Ok, I went with my original idea of the Bmin7 chord and then played over it. I didn't go for a tune exactly, I just stared at the picture and came up with a more atmospheric piece rather than melodic. Hope you like it and can give some good advice.

Sorry for the abrupt ending. I tried to work out how to fade the chord picking out and somehow ended up chopping it off, couldn't get it back sad.gif
Is there a way to fade out the end of a track on a DAW?

Cheers

Hi Phil! This is fantastic! Great job with this tune! This is beautiful because you created music for the image, you didn't worked on a tune that shows knowledge or technique, it's a tune that transmits a feeling, a message, and that's what's music is about for me. Guitarists use to put more focus on techniques, weird chords, scales than the music itself, and here you did it brilliantly.

You keep on surprising me Phil, great job!

There is surely an option to automatize levels or to do some kind of fade out, just check the help or use google search.

Thanks Gab,

I'm really happy that you like it smile.gif
I managed to sort out the fading thanks to Chris. I used the envelope method with nodes. The result is below.

Glad I could be of at least a little assistance! tongue.gif

Diggin' it the more I listen to it - it has that sad quality to it but at the same time I find it extremely relaxing - great counter to a rough day at work today!

Thanks Phil biggrin.gif

Really really happy that you both like it. It means a lot to me, for someone of my level of theory/technique to create something someone actually likes is really encouraging.

Thank you.

This shows that the most important thing to create music is inside us. Learning theory, technique and all that stuff gives more tools, but if you don't prioritize feelings, you won't touch listened hearts, music will be a bit empty. I'm sure that when you listen to music, there are some musicians and pieces of music that touch you while there are others than not. This is the essence of creation and all of us are capable of doing it. Some people says that music is already in the air, and that we just have to catch it and transposing to real music. It sounds like a fantasy but I like what it means and tries to describe.

Ok guys! It's time for a new photo. This time is dedicated to a great musician who left us this week. The great BB King.

I'm really curious to know what you get from this one.

Remember that just one lick, chord, one note, a noise, a short progression or melody, a 20 seconds song, a complete song, everything is welcome here.

Thanks Gab,
This is in fact quite hard. The first thing that comes to mind is obviously the blues. But the picture is very symbolic given that he died this week. I'm struggling to think of anything other than a 12 bar and his amazing "butterfly" vibrato.
Need to think hard about this one.

yeah, I think that a blues lick with that unique vibrato, or even a more cinematic idea can work here. Looking forward your work!

Well I sat here for an hour and a half tonight just noodling along with a few backing tracks. For me personally, it's not enough for this workshop to just play a little bit of blues, I don't have many blues licks anyway, I'm not saying others shouldn't do that, whatever this picture throws at you you have to throw it out there but, I want to do something that relates to the whole picture not just the subject. I have an idea but can't make it happen at the moment rolleyes.gif . I might get my ES339 out tomorrow, may make me feel a bit different cool.gif .

Sorry for not doing anything else tonight Gab, I got locked into this and have worn my fingers out a bit wacko.gif I enjoyed it though, sometimes a change is as good as a rest eh?

Phil

Hey guys!

So with this picture - I didn't want to do a blues song because I felt like it would be a little cliche' so instead I came up with this:

https://soundcloud.com/stortzmusic/when-the-king-comes-home

I wanted to use piano and bells to make it sound "heavenly" and then I just played what I felt (the last solo was 100% improvised).

And now my fingers hurt and I must take a break tongue.gif

RIP Mr. King sad.gif

Very nice work Chris! The tune has a very special feeling which is a mix of melancholy and suspense. There is a mix of sadness of loosing such a legendary musician but I also feel that feeling of... what happens next? Where do we go?

Is he joining other heroes? Is he now meeting Hendrix, Vaughan, Harrison? is he now a star in the sky?

Your tune make me think on these things... thanks mate. and RIP BB KING.

Sure mate, as I said on the mentoring thread, dedicating time to creation is esential for a musician. And you'll discover that sometimes this time seems to be "wasted" because we have days in which we don't get anything, but trust me that it's not wasted, it's part of the training. We are connecting with our creating side.

Have you read this book?

Nice work Chris, I couldn't get most of my idea into my fingers but your piece gave me a bit of inspiration.

Gab I haven't read that book but I think I will, thanks wink.gif

Ok, my piece is below. Not how I wanted it but, such is life.
The playing could have been much better executed but as I was improvising I kept messing up here and there. I can't spend any more time on it, I have to get back to my proper lessons.

Hope you get what I'm trying to do here.

Wow,

Thanks so much for your comment Gab, really means a lot coming from someone of your skill/knowledge level to someone of my skill/knowledge level. wink.gif

I really appreciate it. biggrin.gif

It wasn't what I had in mind but I couldn't get that to work with my current skill set so I went for this route instead.

I'll get back to the other stuff now.

Thanks again, very very pleased. biggrin.gif
