Hi Danyl! This is our thread to discuss about composing and analyze your favorite music.

At first, it would be interesting to know a list of your favorite songs (around 10 songs with youtube link please).

I hope that you enjoy our journey here! smile.gif

Interesting stuff! The songs that you like have obviously an unpredictable structure but by analyzing many of them you'll be able to identify some concepts used. For this, it's also helpful to analyze many songs in one style, or many songs of the same band. Maybe you could start with Megadeth's Rust in Peace album, or any DT album.

As these songs don't have a classic pop/rock song structure, we will have to find another way to identify parts, more like we would do by analyzing classical music. You can work with letters for parts: A, B, C, and A', B', C' when the parts are repeated but with some variations.

The analysis should have 3 columns. The first one with the structure, the second one with the description of the part (what instruments it has, how are arranged, does it work as a chorus or leit motiv of the song?), finally the third column should include the theory behind the part (tonality, chords, scale).

The idea is that you start your first analysis, and share it here with all the possible questions that you have. If you can analyse at least 1 song each week, you'll have a good knowledge about song structure and other composing concepts around 3 months.

Are you in? Any question?

PS: Nice to see that you've shared DT playing at Luna Park stadium. It's one of the best places to see bands here, and I have the opportunity of playing 3 times there with my band. smile.gif
