Pedals And Processors For Beginners

Computer wasn't an option when I started, after upgrading my practice amp bought a (very affordable) dist. pedal and didn't like it at all. Bought a processor and couldn't be happier, with the help of presents I learned the fx like chorus, compressor etc. and created tones I really liked. With this setup I also started playing on stage, wasn't portable as the amp was heavy but worked. Jumped to the computer age as I was already into recording, the processor was used for a while but not the amp-since then the amp is collecting dust soon later plug-ins sounded good and I liked being able to work at night without waking up the neighbors. Since then the processor started collecting dust Since maybe 2 years my expectations expanded on tone and specially feel of guitar and finally started using pedals together with the computer. Pretty much all my overdrive and dist. tone is coming from pedals and the rest from computer. Computer and processors can never nail true analog tone but analog pedals help this. If you don't know what you need , you could spend alot of time and wasted money . With a processor (or computer program ) , you can get to know your effects and how to use them , then , you will have a better understanding if you want to venture into stomp pedals . Hi, Thanks for sharing.Yea I have a pressed budget although ......and since I am starting out,I dont want to spend much in my first processor.The reason being I will be learning the use of a processor from scratch,and once I get used to it.....I will peek into the better ones in the market.What do you say? Did you want a floor based unit? Because you can get Software based rigs, or an amp such as the Fender Mustang, Yamaha THR10, Blackstar ID Core, etc where you can control all the effects and amps with your laptop. I prefer this over floor based units, because I don't like having to spend hours bent over twiddling with knobs (Pun intended Ben Higgins ) on the floor. It wasnt the greatest but it was good enough for me to get going, I had some half decent tones out of it. I think Monica used or uses one as well and she has always got really nice tones ( way better than I did! ). I found it really good to get me started. Thank you Bleez you are too kind BTW after 2 weeks full of experiments, I finally made my first metal tone and I managed to do it similar 90% (10% is different because of different guitar pickups) with 90's Metal Chops lesson. The good news is that for about $250 US you can get a good multi processor Some folks like pedals and a nice amp, but you can always do that later at some point. I'd say get a processor that is also an audio interface. Any of the Boss products or Line 6 pod products will get the job done and on the cheap!! If you can afford one thought, I'd say get a USED avid eleven rack. Best money I ever spent. That takes out of the equation the ME-70, but as was said before, newer similar models with audio interface (USB recording) capabilities are out on the market. Also: I'd get one with pedals so you can switch distortion/effects/wah/volume while you play. "Tabletop" multieffects don't usually allow that.
