Hi Gab, whats the best way to play sequences like these "fast" (down- upstrokes in combination with hammer on and pull offs??)

It's from this lesson:

Thx Chris

Hi Chris,

there is not a best way, there are different ways and the results regarding "sound" or "feel" is different. If you want a more Gilbert/Wylde style sound, you should go for alternate picking. If you prefer a more fusion/kotzen sound combining picking with legato is the way to go. I think that the second option is easier but being able to play it in both ways gives you more sonic possibilities.

Hi Gab, at the moment I make a lot of alternate picking exercises as you suggested.

Problem: as long as I stay on one string, its no problem to play 16th notes at 120 bpm for example, but when I want to change the string its over (for example from the d to the g string). I need 3 or 4 bars until I am back in the rhythm.... Problem is to change the string at "higher" bpms. sad.gif

What can I do? unsure.gif

Hi mate,

yeah, that's the tricky part of Alternate Picking. Please use the crossing strings lessons from my ITC, as well as the outsides and insides lessons, and share a video of you playing the exercises in a few days to let me check if there is anything to adjust regarding your movements.
