The picking hand should always stay in contact with bridge or close to the bridge because hovering is a bad thing to do as you won't be able to control your moves. Usually when i play it's the wrist that touches the bridge of the guitar.

thanks a lot. I'll work on it, I seem to be muting the low E when i'm resting on bridge. I'm playing a Fender Stratocaster if that makes any difference. Any tips?

thanks a lot. I'll work on it, I seem to be muting the low E when i'm resting on bridge. I'm playing a Fender Stratocaster if that makes any difference. Any tips? It's good to mute low strings when playing high strings. When you move up to low strings than you un-mute the low strings. It depends what kind of bridge you have there - if it's not a Floyd Bridge than it's a little problem for right hand - at least it was for me when i played one. -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

These bridges are VEEEEEERY uncomfortable fir this style of picking.
I can't describe it in words... you'll have to try out different positions - just sit and try to play with different positions. -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Wow, I have that type of bridge I believe. Hmm I have never found it uncomfortable though, well sometimes i do. How many different types of bridges are there? FloydRose, Edge, SpeedLoader and than come these Fender bridges which i don't know how to name. If somebody knows some more - share with us! Here is a link to Speedloader: http://www.floydrose.com/speedloader.html This post has been edited by Pavel: Jul 24 2007, 11:39 PM -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

If you guitar has whole for regular tremolo, you can put floyd rose there and you'll have brige like this on my Axis, only way-down which is really cool for me.

Thanks again. My bridge looks like this http://www.vintage-guitars.se/1986_Fender_...0292_bridge.jpg I mute low E string when i'm playing it I mean, i can't seem to rest my palm on the bridge without touching the string, is there something i'm doing wrong? no, nothing wrong. only major issue with that bridge is with the height adjustment screws, which stick up on top of the bridge. i set my action pretty low, so they do stick up on the middle 4 strings. and they are rough, a lot of friction trying to slide one's palm over those. it appears to me that the adjustment screws on the end strings are shorter, and they are near flush with the bridge. i think I will see if I can get my hands on some of those, to replace the adjustment screws in the middle. you may be having this problem, the screws elevate your palm, and you can't ease into a nice damping position. |

Which do you prefer pavel, and recommend? Just as Muris said - get to a guitar store and try it. I am in love with Edge right now because it's perfect on top where you keep your hand. Nothing sticks out and your hand is free. Floyd Rose tremolos are also great for that. -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Well my bridge, is like that to. Its the strat style. Theres nothing sticky up. And i have low action also. I just have no 'bar' . Hm but im gonna do that Pavel. Maybe I can find a more suited Bridge for me. Edge Pro (as fitted to the Jem of course!) - total perfection! -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
