Hi guys, thanks for the suggestions! Renaming doesn't work. I'll see if I can try those sites during the weak and then I'll tell you what happens.

I know it's been a long time since this happened, but in case you still have files you want to recover, apparently the TeslaCrypt malware people have released the master decryption key and moved on. I read this article this morning and thought it sound familiar, hope it can help!

TeslaCrypt shuts down and releases master decryption key

Awesome mate, I still have my files encrypted. I've tried to solve it but I was scared of infecting my machine again so I didn't try again. If anybody has experience with this or already tried it please contact me.

You won't reinfect your machine by just copying the files, only by opening or executing something. If you have them on an external drive, it's safe to connect it and follow the directions in that article. It should unlock everything and you'll have your files back.

There are many versions of teslacrypt, but Gabriel, you mentioned your files are .vvv? If so, I'm pretty sure this new master key doesn't work for you. However, if you visit here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/2...pport-and-help/, you may be able to get help recovering your files. In any case, proceed carefully and first make sure the malware has been removed.

As a general note, this doesn't mean the threat of ransomware has decreased. It simply means these attackers have switched to using a more potent malware.

My files were .vvv

That's great news! The version of teslacrypt that uses .vvv files like yours was actually defeated a couple of months ago. I'm sorry, I'd forgotten that was the version you were attacked by. The master key that was released this week means people attacked by newer versions of teslacrypt can also recover their files.

And, now that you've been through this: what is the first thing you'll do after you recover your files? smile.gif.

BACK UP!! hahaha biggrin.gif

yeah, I had to take the longer method to recover my files because the key had to be found manually doing many steps which I don't understand but that were explained there.
