Super congrats on finishing a song and making a video for it. Often, just completing a song is the hardest part. Not to mention making a full video for it. WELL DONE!!
I like the playing and I like the video as it's all got a cohesive message. It's often easy to get caught in the trap of simply using a static image or just using only the guitar performance as the basis of a vid. Kudos on cutting together a good vid that cuts to the music. Nice The playing is quite nice as well. I like the solo quite a bit Shows a variety of techniques and styles. Question time! 1.)Did you consider any guitar harmonies for any parts of the solo? 2.)Where did you get the other footage? Is it stock or did you shoot? Tip time! 1.)Perhaps a few less shots of playing the rythm bit during the next vid/edit. The background is static (not moving) and the camera angle is static as well. This can interupt the flow of visual motion. Watch some of your fave guitar music videos and notice how the camer often moves when shooting the guitar player. This is very tough when working on your own. It usually requires the help of someone else to run camera. 2.)Close ups during the solo. I'm a fan of some close ups and other angles during the solo to make it as visually dynamic as possible That's about it from me, well done!! Todd OK, here's the second song that I wrote and recorded. Awesome! I've just checked the other song which impressed me, and this one has impressed me even more because of the killer groove and the catchy chorus. It's a very cool song!! I like the melancholic feel of the chorus, and how it contrasts with the verses.
My comments about this are the same than the previous one, for future songs, real instruments or more work on midi tracks will add a lot to your songs. Other than that this is killer, keep the great job! -------------------- My lessons

Excellent! I like the solo on this even better than on Train Kept Rollin'. Would you be willing to upload the axefx preset you used on the solo?
One comment, and maybe it's just me, but your kick and bass seem to be masking each other on their attacks, so the kick loses some punch. Maybe compress those separately? Just an opinion, but the doubletime snare doesn't sound very convincing. It sounds too much like midi . Great job! -------------------- Cyber-industrial music and video animations:

I also use a lot of ideas from Mixing Secrets, what a great book!
Regarding your choice of virtual instruments, ask Gabriel what he uses for bass (jk, he uses a bass virtual instrument I wrote ). -------------------- Cyber-industrial music and video animations:

Hi Gabriel, Thanks. I'm very happy you like it. It's true that you can never replace a real drummer or bassplayer. On Train Keep Rollin I played the bass part myself but honestly, I never play bass so that part can really be a lot better. The bass part on Dead Alley Cat is midi. As it was an intensive part, I didn't succeed to play it convincingly with my midicontroller and decided to program it in my sequencer. Later I applied some groove quantize to make it more "human". I didn't wanted to drive that too far to keep the bass close to the drums. Maybe I should have tweaked some more. Problem is also that when I work on sucha project, my ears addapt very quickly to faults. Very often I work on something for hours, and throw it away next morning. As far as the drums, I mostly use smartloop samples and it's all, you know, cut copy and paste. I have that library for years now and should invest in their new, multitrack samples. Obviously, on one track , I get problems in the mix as I cannot control the kick, snare or anything else separately. I did cut out the kick in every sample and placed it on another track for that purpose. I recently bought The Komplete Ultimate series from Native Instruments. There are a lot of awesome virtual instruments in that package, but I'm still discovering them. Virtual instruments will never come near any real instrument. Although they get better every year, there will always be the factor of our perfect human imperfections. On the other hand, I really like working on my songs this way, in my own tempo. It's a huge learning proces that I fell in love with and hopefully I will become better. Thanks for your respons and support mate !!!!! Nico Hi Nico, I don't know Komplete package but it must be full of great things. Currently I'm using Addictive Drummer 2 for drums and trillian for bass. I totally recommend both because are very versatile, easy to mix, and have great sound. The main secret is to apply advanced mixing techniques to your mixes combined with some humanize tricks. Besides humanizing groove, I recommend humanizing intensity (which is called velocity in midi). This can have a great impact in the "reality" of your midi tracks and combined with good EQ, compressor and reverb management can improve your backing tracks a lot. This is not anything that can be learnt and applied in 1 day or week, but keep this in mind and learn one new concept / trick each day. Your mixes will become better and better. The cool thing is that this is a never ending journey. -------------------- My lessons

Even with all those improvements on the way you are already making great music. That's the most important part mate.
I've done a deep research and it seems that Trillian is the best Bass VSTi in the market so give it a try: https://www.spectrasonics.net/products/trilian.php Now that you have addictive drummer. Check out it's drum kits (very varied) and also all the cool drum loops that includes. I think that you'll find a lot of inspiration for creating new rhythms and ideas. It's been very refreshing for me. About mixing, there is a lot to learn from youtube. There are tutorials for mixing, eq, compressing, adding reverb, mastering. Everything is there. It's try that this is very personal, but at first is good to learn some professional approaches. Having a good pair of monitors is helpful for improving our mixes and recordings. I've got a par of Dynaudio some months ago and I have to say that it has been one of my best investment ever! -------------------- My lessons

That one is on my wishing list !!!As good monitors are too. I was thinking about the Genelec 8040 BPM. But I will have to save some money first and you're absolutely right : you still have to do something with all that great stuff, it's not making music by itself. (But having good gear is also important and stimulating !) Thanks for all the tips !! Nico -------------------- Experienced Tone Seeker
