> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Off Beat Boogie by Chris Harrington

Hi GMC, Hi Chris, Gab, Darius, Ben. I worked a lot... but this lesson remains difficult. I had not played with my Gibson since 15 days. They strings 11/52 are very hard. I gave all that I could.

Oh man! No this is something serious! Love your dynamics and YES YES YES - in this take you have a perfect sense of blues juicy little tricks me spoke about before. Due to a kind of lesson this one is I think there is no point on trying to judge timming assigned to a ruler but I think that a few tiny things/details are missing comparing to an original lesson - for example look at 0:27 lick is there a legato slide missing? smile.gif Overall touch in this take is great and for me deserves a high grade. Well done

Hey this is great - definitely one of your best REC's. We can hear and see that you put a lot of effort into this one. 11-52 strings as well - not easy!! tongue.gif

Vibrato and bending are nice and strong. We've accused you in the past of playing quite softly but you attack this lesson with more confidence than we've seen yet so this is good. Keep going like this. Sometimes you need to be soft but there are times you've got to hit it hard and wring the juice out of every note.

I'd like to hear just a bit more attack and top end snap from the tone. The tone you use is very tasteful but it's very smooth and doesn't have the sharpness of Chris's sound. Tone is very personal and it doesn't have to be the same as his.. but when you dig in to hit notes harder it should give you a bit more bite. It could be a combination of your tone and your playing itself, though, so as you get happier with being more aggressive you'll probably start getting that sharp bite in your playing anyway.

Great work - well done cool.gif

Hi MisterM!

I've shared my thoughts about this take at the mentoring program but again, as Ben and Darius said, this is a very good take. You always share good takes here but this one has an extra feel that shows how much you are working on your playing. Great job!

Work on details, and see if you prefer going for thinner strings to feel more comfortable with bending and vibrato.

Keep on the hard work!
