> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Legato Rock by Javier Aviles

<meaningless intro> Tried to do something useful with the feedback I got last time, but the trial version only allowed one effect per video, so I chose scaling this time instead of colors. And when I was about to export video, I found out the trial version also only allowed one export, so for the first time in a LONG time, I actually bought a license instead of doing the pirate style :) Didn`t go back and edit the colors though...but next time :D </meaningless intro> <useful comments> Tried to get in the groove on this one, even though it`s not perfect. And I REALLY need to work on my guitar face....looks like I`m being stabbed everytime I get satisfied with something :P Also, there are two guitars in this as you probably will hear. I listened to both separately, and the imperfections are the same, but if that`s not allowed, I will redo :) AmpliFire with a Mesa-simulation used for recording. </useful comment>

Hi mate,

congrats on your new licence! smile.gif

Your take on this lesson sounds good. There is only some room for little adjustments but the overall is very close. The first thing that I note is that the first fast run (repeated many times) can sound tighter. It's a very fast idea and you still need to work on it to make it sound clear and at tempo. I also note some little timing issues in the solo section, where I think that you can dedicate time to adjust vibrato. Compare your solo with Javier's and you'll notice how his vibrato is more consistent, work on it!

The video works for this purpose. The next time I recommend mixing better the track to make the backing more audible for us.

Keep on the hard work!

Purchasing licenses is and act of respect for other people's work smile.gif I great to know you're among those who respect smile.gif Behind the software there are people same as you and me, who put a lot of time and effort to their work wink.gif

As for the take it sounds really cool - playing-wise smile.gif I agree with Gab that the fast run could be more precise - mainly it's about the timming because most of times it's quite in other aspects. As for my subjective thoughts...I would do further tone research. I think it's a bit too saturated with a "boxy" middle exposed. Things you play would sound amazing with a more crunchy and "bottle-like" strat tone. But as I said...that's just a subjective suggestion wink.gif

Hi man, I think this take began really well with very tight timing but as the take progressed the fast legato lick became less steady from the middle towards the end.

0:51 - watch out for speeding ahead of the beat slightly. Apart from these small timing issues I really enjoyed it. I like your tone here. The two guitars sounds really nice as well.
