HE was a BIG fan of the "Radius" series smile.gif They later became the JS series. Ibanez discontinued the Radius series and just started making JS series instead. He did used to own some Sabre series during the development of his own Axe. But this was around 1988 when he was putting bits from different guitars together to try to find "his" own instrument.

The S and R versions of this guitar were all part of the Roadstar Pro Series. They even look alike.

I've always loved the radius guitars. I always wondered if the JS100 is the well marketed replacement for the normal Radius range and the JS1000 the effective Prestige model. Obviously they now have their other numbers but I'm just using those numbers to keep it short.
Are the JS100 range worth having? Or are they just a marketing thing?
Cheers buddy smile.gif

The100 is sorta the starter version of the 1000. But as with any guitar it just depends on the player. If you play one, and you like it, then sure smile.gif In the end it really does come down to that. But as far as build quality/etc. The 100 is not in the same league as 1000 as you can probably tell by the price difference. Still, just because a guitar isn't expensive doesn't always mean it's crap.

The 100 was built as a low cost import alternative to the pricier model. The components are not quite as nice and the neck doesn't get the hand finishing that the japan model gets, etc. So yeah, it's just a cheaper version with similar design.

More info on it at
http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/JS100
and the pricey one @
http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/JS1000

Pretty much the same neck on both, just the pricey one is finished by hand in Japan, where the cheaper one is finished by machine in indonesia or korea.

So don't think of it as a replacement for the 1000, more of an intro version. But again it all comes down to you playing them. If you play the 100 and it speaks to you, get it wink.gif

Todd

Thanks Todd,

I think I'd go for a used 1000. They did a hard tail at one point I think.

Cheers

The RG570 was the original model name of that line. It was later changed to 1570. There were two necks used on those. One neck is 1mm thicker than the original wizardon the golden era, it depends on what year it was built. But either way 1mm is really not that big a deal so either way it's a spiff neck smile.gif Prestige on the headstock now means it was built in japan and has one of the spiff necks similar to the golden era necks. They have started using titanium rods in the necks (HP ULTRA/PRESTIGE WIZARD) to keep the necks from warping like they did on the original guitars.

Mine was made in 2009 and has the five piece neck.

BTW, I found this thread while I was trying to find some credence for the thing I read about Ibanez creating the S series when they saw the Squire HMIII wink.gif

The first IBANEZ S models went in to production in 1987 and the first HMII was a couple years later. So the S was already rolling when the HMII came along. It's more likely that fender created the HMII to compete with huge popularity of Ibanez guitars in the late 80s early 90s IMHO.

S Series
The Ibanez Saber (S) series was introduced for the 1987 model year, around the same time as the Ibanez RG.

Fender HM series
HM I - 2 point bridge, standard nut, HSS, neck bolt-on, Korea, 1989-1993
HM II - FR Bridge, locking nut, HSS, neck bolt-on, Korea, 1989-1993
HM III - FR bridge, locking nut, HSH, neck bolt-on, Korea 1989-1993
HM IV - FR bridge, locking nut, HSH, set neck, Korea, 1989-1993
HM V - FR bridge, locking nut, HSH, set neck, flame figured top, Korea, 1990-1993

I'd almost forgotten about this thread!

My first decent guitar smile.gif

Though 300-series its actually made in japan (with crappy hardware). I used it for 3 years and sold it for a better ibanez. It was comfy and left me nice memories but I wouldn't buy one today smile.gif

My first Ibanez was an Rg from the early to mid 90's. It looked just like this one and I wish I still had it. dry.gif

Now I have an S-470 DXQM from about 07 that is Indonesian made. Not too bad of a guitar modified with active Emg's that I will most likely sell now that I have the Rg 652K (Prestige)

My first Ibanez was a SA260. Sold that a while back. I have a cheap RG321 stripped down that I fancy having ago of repainting the body and installing new electrics.

I have serious GAS for the new RG550 smile.gif . Think they are due in the guitar shops in a couple of weeks. I keep waking up through the night and going on my phone to look at them laugh.gif

I still have my "Precious" RG560 as you guys know, since I use it in collabs all the time. I can't imagine life without this guitar. She has taken a beating over the years but I'll keep her until she falls apart smile.gif
Here she is in action along with BEN's RG3570z in our recent collab Vid.

I'd been wanting a 3570 (which is essentially just an RG570 with some nicer bits) since I saw them in 2010 (There are many Ibby fans who believe that 2010 was the end of the line for the level of quality control that Ibby had held as their standard, I don't know if I buy in to this, but it's a common belief among Ibby enthusiasts). Took 7 years but I finally found one in Dead Mint condition for under a grand. It can take forever to find the right ibby in the condition you want it. But it's worth the wait smile.gif You guys have seen me use this one quite a bit too as I sold many of my other guitars to get it smile.gif

As I've mentioned, now is a great time to by a Golden Era Ibby as the price has been cut almost in half due to the release of the GENESIS series which are essentially re releases of the original 550 and 570.

Todd

My first Ibanez was a 1989 RG760, turned out it wasn't exactly for me but was a great guitar. The one I found later which WAS for me was my S671QM. It's a $300 base model with a slightly thicker neck and fixed bridge. It's my favorite guitar by far, just goes to show cost doesn't matter for much.

I've only owned a couple in my time;

80's Blazer - lotta love for this instrument. Was the first guitar I owned that was actually decent;

Blazer Models

FGM100 (signed) in Desert Yellow. Big Gambale fan but ultimately didn't dig the neck shape (don't kill me!);

FGM100

Happy days..

I've only had my 1st Ibanez (a 2001 RG770FM) a short while.

Now maybe I'm not too picky about guitars, but it holds its own against my Tyler. Both have great necks even though they are wildly different in dimensions, both extremely playable.

The only thing is the pickups, I think I will be on the search to replace the ceramic Quantum pickups in it.
