As everyone was and still is buying overdrives to enhance their amp sounds, seems this is what will replace that apporach if not OD pedals popularity.

They're really versatile too, can be a dist./OD pedal or plug it to the fx loop (or clean channel if you don't have that) and it completely transforms the amps character.

I don't know these buy tech 21 stuff performs great when connecting directly to the soundcard, the flyrig series has the basic fx so you don't even need a plug-in...a friend of mine stopped carrying around his fender amp to gigs and only uses a flyrig with his pedalboard.

We'll see when they come out, but it's been years since anybody has tried to claim an analog pedal sounds like a tube amp. Digital won that war years ago. Either they're foolish or have reinvented the transistor smile.gif.

Last few years showed how huge is the progress of building small things that really do the job. Without discussing never ending argument on what's better - tube, solid state or digital, the fact is those 3 things start to work together really well. I'm maybe to young to say this but I feel like times have changed and these days we are much more a type of "alone traveler" playing in different projects. In this case gear size has a lot to do with your traveling comfort. I lately play a lot on Taurus Stomp-Head 5. Today I'll receive a speciall case for it....around 3U height. It will fit into a bag or could be carried standalone as a complete rig. All I need for any kind of project I play with, is in this case - AMP, FX device and midi controlled wah wah. It's all light weight and do sound really good through line out as well. This means I can stripp down my travel set to just one case, guitar and a foot controller, with absolutely no compromise on the available tones. IT makes me able to travel by the train. I can plug to basically...anything theat is available at the gig place.

That's why I understand why manufacturers took this direction. You can alwasy have your tone and what's more important...your dynamics response with you smile.gif

Totally wise words! This is the main reason why I'm always open to new stuff. I'm having a similar issue now that we have many tours with Cirse and most of the times it is impossible to carry my Mesa Boogie amp and my complete pedalboard. I didn't find the solution yet but I'm on the search and open to different options. I think that it could be a good idea to have a thread at the forum where we discuss different "tour" reduced/mini gear possibilities....

The new flyrig is amazing for this reason. It may be perfect for GABE! IT will fit in your case, sounds like a nice amp with delay fx and overdrive/boost. Nearly everytone you could need and fits in your guitar case!!! Here is a review. I"m sure you have seen before but just in case smile.gif

Looking forward to trying the palladium. 3 gain stages plus sweep mid eq (finally). A great addition to any pedal board. smile.gif

One thing that really shocked me recently was the POD HD BEAN I got. It's small and light (but needs a footswitch) doesn't hold a candle to my ancient GNX4 when it comes to high gain tones. Just like finding an old ibby in good shape, if you can find an old gnx4 on ebay or something for $150, grab it. IT's already a pedal board with wah/volume controller built in and still sounds better than stuff being made decades later.

Todd
