> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner's Corner 21: String Bending by Bear Rose

Hello ! It's been a while since I didn't practice this lesson because after too much practicing it, I just couldn't more ! ;-) But I had it in mind while practicing other lessons. Well, it's still quite difficult for me to combine correct pitch on bends and vibrato... I'd like to have your opinions on this new take.

Hi Daeron,

this lesson shows that you still need to work hard on this techniques but the good news are that I can hear improvements compared with the previous take.

In this one you reach to the right pitches on more bends than the previous one and you start to look more comfortable. However there is still more work to do in order to make everything sound more consistent, and natural.

I think that it could be a good idea to work on any other lesson while you continue polish this one in order to avoid getting bored of the same lesson. What about this one? LINK.

Hi man, you're doing pretty good, especially on the whole tone bends. I think you struggle more with the semitone bends using the index finger so try pay some extra attention to that.

Your vibrato is sounding promising as well so keep doing that. It will sound more controlled and even after a while. Just make sure that you try to maintain the original pitch of the bend in between the vibrato movements.

Try to keep the same timing as Bear as well. I'm sure that you let the bends down earlier as you don't have the required finger strength yet but do try to maintain the bends longer if you can smile.gif

Hey Daeron! smile.gif

Combining bends and vibrato is a hard thing to execute perfectly. Even if you get to a quite good skilsl level, you still need to be very carefull to not loose the proper pitch. Watching your playing closely I can say your hand mechanics are fine and there is nothing particular being done wrong in your case. You use additional fingers to support the bends and you try to execute it from the wrist. It's only a matter of time now, to see you deliver great bends with precise vibrato and pitch smile.gif
