When members of two bands from the frozen north get together with wildly differing styles, what comes out is pretty spiff IMHO. Members of Enslaved and Wardruna have formed a project called SKUGGSJA and this is one of their first relased vids. It's not Metal. It's not folk. It's something in between. Not for everyone to be sure as it's kinda atmospheric/ambient. But I'm diggin it smile.gif What do you guys think?

Here is Wardruna with a bonus. Amazing Cello player TINA GUO (recently became a fan from her youtube vids) happens to be playing with them smile.gif Along with an orchestra.

all of that is fantastic. I didnt know about Skuggsja but I have been listening to Wardruna quite a lot. Anything Scandinavian / Norse / Pagan-ey is fine in my book biggrin.gif
That Trevor Morris gig is equally amazing. I need to grow my beard to look like that, its the coolest facial hair ever.

He really does have one of the best chin farms I've seen. The guy looks honestly like what you think of as 'Viking". Our own BEN sorta has the Viking vibe as well and now that I think about it so you do you!!! I actually thought you were from Norway at one point as I saw a small Norway flag I think in one of your guitars or was it on the wall behind you? Not sure. Also from various feedback I've seen from you talking about Norway's Metal scene. smile.gif

I'm getting more and more in to European Folk rock/music which is often if not always Pagan themed. Tyr got me started and I ended up at Wardruna which still has Metal ties as Mr. Black Metal himself GAAL, sometimes sings and joins them on stage and helped found the band.

The first SKUGGSJA album was prepared for the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution as it tells the entire History of Norway going back to ancient writings to present. So it was a product of Patriotism in part smile.gif

Glad you like it! smile.gif It struck me as very new and fresh sounding as well. Just not something you hear every day. I like the way it builds and sounds somehow ancient and modern at the same time smile.gif

I saw this and thought about our chatting about folk/scandnavian music, etc. It's a band from Sweden using two harps singing a traditional Swedish folk tune. The band is called OMNIA. They are singing in Swedish of course smile.gif Always like hearing folk music done in the Mother Tongue. Being from Kentucky, the mother tongue is "Hill Billy" smile.gif
Small world, they are evidently pals with the folks in Wardruna. smile.gif To make things even more fun, They sing in English, Irish, Breton, Finnish, German, Dutch, Swedish, Latin and Hindi!

I just realised that Einar from Wardruna was in an episode of Vikings. I never really noticed the first time I watched it but I went back to that scene and I cant believe I didnt realise it was him!
I had to order the last Wardruna album on green vinyl tonight, by the gods this music has gotten right under my skin cool.gif

Wardruna helped quite a bit in the music used in Vikings and IMHO they did a killer job smile.gif They are the perfect band to get for the music on Vikings. Doesn't get much more authentic that having those guys come with some of the tunes for that show smile.gif And they did work amazingly well as tracks for the show. Hope they stay linked up!!

Yup Einar was in the show smile.gif The whole band could probably be in the cast and not look out of place wink.gif

Speaking of this type of Music here is the entire Skuggsja album. If you like it folks BUY IT!!! smile.gif Performed by Wardruna and Enslaved as a piece for the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution.

I was giving a first play to the Yggdrasil album which arrived yesterday, transparent red vinyl.... most awesome cool.gif Just happened to be a big thunderstorm this afternoon so I had the window open as I played the album which has rain + thunder effects in the opening track. Best surround sound ever! biggrin.gif
Listening to Wardruna in the middle of a storm just increased my trve kvlt-ness by at least 35% cool.gif
