should we make sure we define it all the same and is this acceptable
Definition of terms:

· Transcendence: Belief that the state can transcend social conflict and blend all social classes into a harmonious whole. Belief in the power of political ideology to transcend human nature and produce a better world.

· Cleansing (ethnic): Favoring one or more ethnic or racial groups over others, either by granting special privileges or imposing disabilities; deportation of ethnic minorities, or worse.

· Cleansing (political): Silencing the political opposition so that the transcendent aims of fascism can be realized. Restricting the freedom of speech, outlawing opposition parties, imprisoning political opponents (or worse) and indoctrinating youth in fascist principles.

· Statism: Promoting a high degree of state intervention in personal, social, or economic matters. Belief that the state can accomplish anything.

· Nationalism: Belief in the inherent unity of a population with distinct linguistic, physical, or cultural characteristics and its identification with a nation-state. Belief that the nation possesses special attributes that make it superior to other nations in some or all ways.

· Paramilitarism: "Grass roots", populist squadrism aimed at coercing opponents and obtaining popular approbation by acting as a supplementary police force.

I'd say the SOURCE of the definitions is most important thing. If we can agree on common SOURCES then we can have an actual conversation. So I'd suggest WEBSTERS DICTIONARY (online hopefully) is a valid source of definitions. I don't know where you got these definitions you posted as I don't see any sort of reference source? It's always important to "Site your sources" in any discourse IMHO smile.gif

So where did you get your definitions? Was it from Websters Online?

we can use websters http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fascist
Full Definition of fascism

1
often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2
: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control <early instances of army fascism and brutality — J. W. Aldridge>

But this is where I got it http://www.anesi.com/Fascism-TheUltimateDefinition.htm

Yup smile.gif Websters is where I got the definition of fascism that I originally posted smile.gif

In light of Spocks recent post about saving the GMC forums for truly important things, like guitar related stuff, I'm going to probably back off of initiating and if I can at all help it, responding to political posts. After all, it doesn't seem like it's benefiting anyone and it may be taking away from practice time sad.gif
