Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: John Sykes Style by Ben Higgins

Learning this was a pleasure, after hammering the previous one for ages. It is a first record-take, I can feel/hear that the notes are a bit shorter than they should be, probably typical REC syndrome thing...

Hey Marek!

Through time you've showed us how fast you develope your abilities to play faster and cleaner in each of your new takes. That's the field where your progress is most visible. In this particular take speed parts are being executed really nice, same as rhythm part. The thing that catches my attention is a kind of irregularity in your vibrato and bends pitch. You tend to pull the strings and keep vibrating over note that is already a little above the correct pitch. You're not crossing the point of "full release". Vibrating bent notes is slightly different execution-wise, but the problem is similar. Try to review it. Aside from this it's an excellent job!

Hail, Marek!

It's really cool to see another take from you. The D-Master has already pinpointed the most important part which is your bending and vibrato.

The whole tone / half bend at 0:34 is coming in a bit too low. You need a fraction more on that note to get the right pitch. You use a mainly classical hand position so bending in this position is a bit harder than if you had an angled hand position. That's ok, it just means you need to use more finger strength so make sure the other fingers are doing as much as they can to help.

As Darius said, when adding vibrato to a bend, try letting the bend down a fraction and pushing it back up several times to get the vibrato sound instead of pushing it over the pitch. That way, the main tone of the bend will still keep occurring. At the moment, you push the bend over pitch and then add vibrato.

The fast picking is excellent and your hand synchronisation is great cool.gif

May Odin guide thee well!

Hi Marek,

I have to agree with the other instructors on this one. Your speed picking and rhythm work are top level, while your more melodic side show very important pitch issues, related to both bending and vibrato techniques.

I think that it's totally important that you dedicate half of your technique practice during the next weeks to work on this two techniques. You can use melodic lessons by Darius, or technique exercises by Ben (he also has cool youtube videos with tips for technique).

Other than that, this is a killer take, but please work on this!

Keep on rocking.
