Hello Gabriel,
Thank you.

- How many time have you been playing guitar?
I have been playing guitar for about 3 months but in that 3 months I have had 5 lessons with an instructor.

- Favorite guitarists, bands and musicians.
Being a older player (45) I have a good many and varied musical scope.I guess if I had to name just one artist/band it would probably be Metallica in saying that I do like other artists as well.

- What are your guitar goals?
My guitar goals are that I would like to obtain a deeper understanding of the instrument and be able to freely express myself as a musician.I don't really see myself as being a shredder but I would really like to be more rhythmic with my playing.

- How would you like to you see yourself in 5 years (related to music and guitar)?
In 5 years I would like to see myself in a band and being confident in my abilities.

- How many time can you play guitar each day?
My practice times are limited due to heavy work commitments but generally practice for 2 hours in the evening and an hour in the mornings before everyone wakes up.

- Do you have playing live experience?
No live experience yet, but I am jamming with a bass player and another guitarist and I am really enjoying that.

- Which are your strong and weak points with guitar?
At the moment I would say my chord changing and barre chords and my left and right hand technique/speed are my weak points but I am working on these as part of my practice routine.
My strong points are I learn quickly and I am committed to improving as a guitarist.

- What do you know about music theory?
Learning all the time.Major/minor scales.5 minor pentatonic scale shapes.Basic chords. I have found Ivan's Chord and the Arpeggio Workshop Series on the website very good and very helpful.

- Can you record videos of you playing?
Yes.
- Share here audios and videos that reflect your current playing.
I'll select a lesson and make my first video as soon as possible.

Thanks
STENCH

Gday Gab,
Hope you are well.
Finally, I found enough time to do some recording. I chose the "Metallica Made Easy" lesson, hope that is ok. Just using SoundCloud for now until I get my camera back from my brother. I really enjoyed making this one.
I used my Ibanez RG927WFXZC and reaper (DAW) with my 500x and it was the first time I've actually recorded something so....please be brutal! cool.gif

A few points I have noticed:
Vibrato needs work.
Palm muting needs work.
Timing needs work.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Hi mate! Thanks for the audio. I agree with the elements that you said that need more work. So let's start working!!

ASSIGNMENT #1:

Goal:

- Bending
- Major Scale Improvisation (Ionian Mode)

TASK 1:

- Learnt this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...ending-Workout/

TASK 2:

- Improvise over the backing track of the lesson trying to create your own variations of the phrases learnt, combined with your own phrases.

Exam and deadline:

By October 15th you'll have to share 2 videos:

- A video playing Bending lesson lesson (5 coins)
- A second video improvising over the lesson's backing (5 coins)

Each of this videos will be evaluated (check the coins value below). You need to get at least 7 coins to pass. If you pass, we can continue, if you don't you will have a second "call" that would be the last one.

Gday Gab,
Just a quick update on progress.
Since the string bending task has been set I have noticed a massive increase in finger strength.
I have problem though, the calluses on the pads of my fingertips have just erupted from all the playing and practicing making very painful to continue practicing. I spoke to the bass player in the band about the issue and he suggested I wear a glove when it gets too uncomfortable. Well I just laughed! I thought he was joking. He said it happens to him all the time. So he gave me one of his gloves to try and I have to say it works a treat. At first it just felt very weird but after 2 days of wearing the glove on my fretting hand when it gets too uncomfortable, I'm getting used to it.

Any thoughts on this topic?
Has that sort of thing ever happened to you?

I get my camera back tomorrow so I'll upload my progress pre deadline.

Cheers
STENCH

Gday Gab,
I finally got my camera back from my brother.
I know I have missed the deadline but my workload is very high at the moment and time is in short supply for me.
I really enjoyed this lesson and at times struggled with it,which is a good thing I guess. I have learned a lot from this and other lessons found on GMC.

Lesson Notes:
I really struggled with finding correct pitch on peak bend but as my musical ear gets more experience with noticing the differences with either bending too far or not enough. I am improving with this.
Another phrasing hardship I found was when bending the high B and simultaneously playing the high E quite difficult, but i got better with this.
I also found it difficult dealing with recording yourself and getting a little nervous, but a valuable tool when you listen back to whatever you record.
In regards to my video I'm not very happy with it and I know I have and can play it better.

Hi Stench! Great!! Congrats on your first video here.

Your bending technique obviously needs more work. Some bends are on pitch but most of them are close but not there. The problem becomes more notorious in the second half of the lesson. There, the pitch issues become more and more present.

I recommend you to keep on practicing this lesson for 1 week. And combine it with the exercise shared by Satriani at the beginning of this video:

You can also apply it to the lesson.

Deal?

Gday Gab,
Hope you are well and the sun is shining for you.

RE: Beginner Bending Workout
Sorry for being a bit non communicative on this topic.
I have not given up on the lesson that you sent for me but it is proving more difficult than I anticipated, although I am improving my pitch accuracy steadily. My string bends are improving as is my ear training.
I was wondering could you possibly set me another task, so I may work on this in the background instead?

Hey Gab,
Task accepted wink.gif
I have completed the Indie Rock V: Kings Of Leon lesson that you put online and had heaps of fun with it as well.
I'll make a video of it as soon as I get it under my fingers.
Thanks
