Wanted to start a thread of a bit of Hero Worship. Here is the Legendary ALCATRAZZ with YNGWIE himself playing lead, before later being replace by STEVE VAI. That band had some serious guitar Gods.

The Video is pure cheese fest, of course, as it's the early 80's. But the music RAWKS to this day smile.gif

Good old rock! smile.gif Impelitierri was a second guitar player of this band right? He's crazy shredder as well but somehow I feel...less musical than Malmsteen.

Impellitteri wasn't in Alcatrazz. You're probably thinking of the vocalist, Graham Bonnet, singing on Impellitteri's first album (and a later one) smile.gif

It's older than many folks here on GMC smile.gif But yeah, it's a classic IMHO. Impelliteri was tagged with being an 'Yngwie Clone" early on in his career and he never seemed to shake it. He's a find player to be sure smile.gif But he never had the Gravitas of Yngwie IMHO or the staying power. Not that many folks still talk about him. Wads of folks still try to learn yngwie songs. They are almost universal among rock God Players.

I think that, like Vinnie Moore and Paul Gilbert, their early work was definitely Yngwie and neo classical influenced and derived, mainly because that's what was popular and, certainly in Vinnie's case, what the record companies wanted them to play.. we all know how incredible Vinnie and Paul became when allowed to be the players they wanted to be smile.gif

Even though Impellitteri didn't achieve the same level of recognition he deffo broke out of the Yngwie sound and developed his own thing.. I listened to a lot of his later stuff when coming up with lessons and there's some mind blowing guitar playing on there!

LOL! it SO is biggrin.gif back in the 80's where you could just tie a random scarf around your leg and no one questioned it.
I always liked Chris Impellitteri, I had one of his hot licks vids. I didnt think anyone could play that fast ohmy.gif

IT could be this way. I remember someone telling me this but he might mess things up smile.gif

I agree smile.gif He was tagged perhaps unfairly as the "YNGWIE CLONE" just because that was what was happening at the time. His own style before more varied over time, just like many great players who started off being just a pinch to YNGWIE smile.gif

But yeah, he wasn't in ALCATRAZZ as far as I know (to respond to D man), as I mentioned, it was STEVE VAI who later replaced him. Some killer guitars players in that band smile.gif

A quick googling is often called for in such cases smile.gif Impelliteri played with Graham who was in Alcatrazz, but the Imp man was never in Alcatrazz himself at all as far as I"m aware smile.gif

NEXT UP!!!!

Some of the earliest QUEENSRYCHE that I ever remember hearing and thinking WOW THEY KICK A$$!!!!!

It's from Japan where Metal Bands used to get "Test Toured" and then brought over to the states, way back in the day. One band that was HUGE over in Japan but never translated to U.S. Stardom was ANVIL who have had a bit of a revival and a documentary about them. They where on a tour with Guns and Roses and other acts that went on to be HUGE over here, they never did. Some say it was just because the lead singer was not pretty enough. Which doesn't seem like a valid reason given STEVEN TYLER:)

Anyhoo, this is a track called WARNING and it's packed with tropes and bits that became canon for later Metal all through the 80's. See if you can recogonize them smile.gif It's a bit of a "Cult Classic" Track for Queeensryche fans and 80's Metal fans in General smile.gif

Of course, starts with short Drum Solo smile.gif Followed by Tate hitting one of his classic high notes that, sadly, age has robbed him off and now he let's the audience try it smile.gif The "Other Queesnryche, with younger singer, hit's it just fine. Anyoo, enjoy!!! From TOKYO!!!!
