Tremonti Made Easy, Lesson By Ben Higgins |
|
Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Tremonti Made Easy by Ben Higgins
Hey Guys, First post here on GMC. I was kinda losing motivation for practising so I decided to sign up hoping I would get motivated again. I've been on the site for a few hours and it already helped :) Decided to go with a Tremonti lesson since i'm a pretty big Alter Bridge fan. -------------------- |

Hi mate! Welcome to GMC and congrats on your first REC take!
Your playing is good on this first submit. I can notice that your picking is strong and that your hands movements is efficient and natural. The first things that come to mind when listening your your take are related to technical issues. The first one is that here you can check a video that will help you to improve the audio of your videos: The second one is related to the fact that your guitar has pitch/tuning issues in the higher frets. This can be related to old strings or the need of calibration. Check this out since while practicing you are also training your ear, so it's important to hear the right note pitches. Regarding your playing, I can say that your vibrato is consistent in most of the take but that I can find some of them that have some room to go more connected with the backing's groove. I can also mark that there some timing issues when playing 16th notes (for example at 00:18). Finally, I notice that Ben tend to give a pinch harmonic effect to some notes which is missed in your take. This is not totally a harmonic, but it's a mix of note and harmonic. Ok mate, that's all by now, keep on rocking. -------------------- My lessons

Hi man, welcome to the REC Zone!
I agree with my colleagues that you've got great control over your string bending, your vibrato and your picking. Nice and positive movements, which always leads to better tone. As you can hear in the original lesson, I used an auto wah which adds different high freq. tonalities and lots of the long notes with vibrato but I think you still get great results without one. In some places, your timing can be slightly rushed, especially during the picked arpeggios near the end. Another thing during the picked arpeggios is the vibrato on the last note of each shape, at 0:28 and 0:31. Just watch out that your vibrato doesn't get too wide here and that the note doesn't get pushed too sharp. You're just about ok there but any more and it would be too noticeable. It can be hard controlling this when using 'upwards' vibrato, as I know myself. I used an upwards vibrato in the video too but one option for playing vibrato on higher strings and higher up the neck is to use classical (side to side) vibrato. It gives a great vibrato response and there's no danger of pushing he note too sharp. If you've not looked at it before have a go at it: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey/ Great work! |
