Roland Jc22 Mini Amp Version Of Their Legendary Jcm120 Options

Most folks have heard of the ROLAND JCM 120. Anyone whose played in a Jazz band probably owns or has owned one. They are somewhat legendary for the amazing clean tone and stereo chorus. Gotta say, they do sound amazing. It's a killer combo amp. It's NOT typically a metal amp, but with the right preamp in front is sure can be. Anyhoo, Roland, like every other vendor, now has a "Mini Me" version and it's pretty spiff

QUESTION: anyone tried one?

This is a great solution for many, being stereo to start with...there's a huge difference of using reverb, delay in stereo rather than mono even though the speakers are side-by-side. Aside guys who have strymon-like pedals, processor users can also have a lot of fun.

A big part of the JC-120 is that it's in a big, open back combo box with two high efficiency 12" speakers. It is friggin LOUD and CLEAN and pretty 'spacious' all on it's own, even w/o the chorus.
The JC-40 (40 watts, 2-10") doesn't really sound like a 120 due to it's reduced size. I'm skeptical of the new little one with 6.5" speakers.

*The new JC-22 is listing for almost $500 here in the US ... which seems like a lot of scratch for a transistor mini amp.
The demos definitely sound small and boxy compared to a real JC-120. Cool if it was $150 ... not $500.

$500 is way to much. I'm thinking the "street price" will be much lower around 3 or 400. . Especially the used price, as these start coming back in as folks try them and then upgrade to the big boy I'm all for used gear.

I was thinking, like you evidently, that this would make a great, cheap, starter amp for folks to put a few pedals in front of. It's a bedroom amp. It's not meant for gigging IMHO, it's just not up to task. But for a bedroom, practice amp, it could be a very handy thing
