I watched a documentary (not on youtube) about the kidnapping Charles Lindbergh's baby. Many here may have no idea what I'm talking about. Charles was a famous Aviator here in the states
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Lindbergh
He was also a BIG fan of something called EUGENICS which was a bit fad at this time and basically amounts to selective breeding in humans to perpetuate traits that are wanted vs traits that are not wanted like disease and illness.

Sadly for Charles his son had several genetic defects and this just would not do. So it's now suspected that he engineered the kidnapping and allowed his sons death and even went so far as to remove certain internal organs that would have given away the fact that the child was genetically "defective". Here is a link to some research on this at Rutgers university.

This man was a national Hero. A recipient of the "Medal of Honor" (the highest distinction available), yet he couldn't accept his own son due to his fanatical Eugenics leanings. The whole thing made me kinda sick. Just thought I'd share smile.gif

Here to Todd for sharing something sick.........and I thought it would be a bit of wood-shedding.

Although, the idea of genetic manipulation of human traits is something that is no longer science fiction and likely to be of some issue (availability, diversity, ethical etc) in our lifetimes to greater degrees, especially if one just considers the amount of technological change that has happened since our own birth's a short while ago.

Eugenics also involved wholesale sterilization of poor people, African Americans, Native Americans, etc. The Nazi's were also big into this. Rarely (if ever) has it been used 'positively'.
Eugenics wasn't a 'fad'. It was (or is) a really fucked up way of getting rid of folks you don't think belong in society by not letting them breed.

Here's some reading ...

*Lindbergh was a pro Nazi, anti Semitic schmuck. Whether he actually helped to orchestrate kidnapping his own son - we don't really know. But he's definitely no hero.

All valid points to be sure smile.gif I left out the Nazi bit just to avoid politics but yeah, they were big in to it, but not many folks are aware THEY GOT IT FROM US!!! The Eugenics idea started in the United States and England, then traveled beyond. President Roosevelt created the "HEREDITY COMMISSION" which resulted in many states enacting "Sterilization Laws" to prevent certain folks from having children. If you were found to be "genetically deficient" you were put on the list. Here's the fun part, in VIRGINIA THEY DIDN"T STOP STERILIZING PEOPLE UNTIL 1979!!!!

Roughly 8,000 people became victims of this. Some were mentally ill, developmentally disabled, etc. Yup, after World War II, here we are in the bosom of freedom, still going strong on Eugenics in some states up until nearly 1980. Uggh.

Here is the full article about Compulsory sterilization in 50 States, as it went down. Still makes me a bit ill. Article is from the University of Vermont. Not a blog, or such.

I agree with you that Lindbergh was no hero. He was a Nazi sympathizing, infanticidal, bigot.

Now then. What we have to determine in our future, is where EUGENICS stops, and where genetic modification starts. We are very close to being able to not only eliminate family traits like heart disease and such, but also being able to select eye and hair color. Blonde haired, blue eyed, six foot tall males are but a tweak away. This is what really worries me. When do we become what these sickos were trying to create so many years ago. Drawing that line will be a tricky task indeed.
